What a drive, you guys rocks, been on the NH2 from Allahabad till Dhobi recently, Dehri on Son bridge is still small compared to Gandhi Sethu of Patna, which is more than 5.6Kms long and Dehri bridge is some where 3.8km , I have been on both the bridge this time twice...

Would love to do this GQ drive some time myself..

I certainly do believe you.

No, not the part about it being the coffee, but the part that you always see him at Baristas or Coffee Day.

I don't think he needs complan / horlicks / coffee to be grooving, MJ is ever the happy child; kept us pumped up and in josh.

That photo at the cooking-range was him overseeing dinner at Panghat Hotel, near Jaipur.

When was the last time you saw a tired reporter? Reporters are always fresh in front of the camera. When the camera is turned off,...

mjothi, what's the update man?

Your post was absolutely hilarious, but this Vadivelu quote took the cake. Couldn't stop laughing for "mupadhu nimisam" (30 minutes)

How difficult is this stretch? What is the road condition?
1,500 kms from Delhi to Calcutta on NH2.

Route is great all the way. Small stretches of construction after Nagpur and in Jharkand, as explained in another post.

If you do not leave Delhi early, you can get stuck in jams in Delhi border, Faridabad and small towns like Mathura BP, Sikandra, Agra BP.

You will have to pace the drive across 2 fast days, unless you want to stop off en route at Allahabad, Varanasi or Parvanath. We found Allahabad an ideal halt since Kanpur would be too early an halt. If you plan a visit to Varanasi, then drive from Varanasi to Calcutta is easier.

Facilities are good by truck-driver standards.

Road is fantastic, in many places concretised.

Don't even hesitate to try the route.

very encouraging to hear about good road conditions

Not sure if someone brought this up already.. but how come some parts of the GQ are cemented while some are black topped ? is it due to the weather conditions in those places ?

That's true. mjothi is such a happy & cheerful character. Infact we should name him 'happy mjothi'. I am sure he would make a wonderful 'cheerleader' in any of the IPL teams .

In above pics, notice the our HVK is at times tensed and at times relaxed. tension means we are behind schedule & things not working to plan. Relax means that we started at 3.00 in the morning .

Cheers,

In several places, the roads are concreted. I guess the BOOT contractors have taken a call on whether it is more cost-effective to tar or concrete, since concreting would mean maintenance-free situation. In several places, the terrain - for e.g. paddy fields and ensuing land sinking - may have necessitated concretisation. IN many places in UP, Bihar, where we passed through paddy fields, the road was invariably concrete.
