Default Owners of GM & FORD goes together for a Divine trip!!!

Yup. To be precise its the owner of a GM car and a Ford car

Route : Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Kannanda halli - Uthangarai - Chengam - Tiruvannamalai.
Distance : 493Kms (Home to Home)
People : mjothi & co, snaronikar & co and Snarinikars brother.

When we meet on friday night over Bagini, I was thinking I will be also joining the guys to Track day, atleast as a spectator. But the next morning, it was all different. I woke up around 7am with a sudden a flash of an idea to visit Arunachaleswar in Tiruvannamalai.

I ask my wife and she was ok. The plan was to reach the place around 5pm, stay for the night and next day visit Gingee fort. Then to return to Bangalore.

I tried couple of friends here to check if they could also join. And finally Snaronikar was ready to join us.

We decided to meet @ 1:30pm in the border of Hosur/bangalore. I left around 12:45pm from home, zeroed the trip meter and took the usual, speed breaker famous route of the Varthur-Sarjaur road. With not so traffic, we reached the border at 1:35pm. I saw a large number of Tata sumos with VIP escort marked on them with several police vans parked in the border.

So, I crossed then and stopped a little front. When I enquired a police man he mentioned that It was for Dr. Abdhul Kalam's visit to Hosur.

I was waiting there for 30min and called srini. He was on the NICE road. Since my daugther was not comfortable and we were also been asked by police not to park there, I called and told him that I will be moving slowly and we can catch up in A2B Chinnar.

After visiting a ATM on the way, I reached Chinnar at 2:50pm, filled petrol, had juices and began to wait for our friend.

He arrived after sometime, had lunch. When we were sitting in the ghar, I see some familiar face coming towards us with a french beard. Ha, that was our Rahul. I thought he was going to Sriperambathur to practice for the next dat track. I was right only half. Yes he is going to Sriperambathur, but not for the track. He was on a mission to counter check the milage figure for the Race Dynamics.

Then we finished the lunch and started to head Tiruvannamalai. After we took the right in the NH46 and entered the NH66, roads was not good. But i wont say it bad either. With pot holes here and there, but still can be driven under a comfortable speed of 60-80kmph.

Neat roads

I see many dhabas around this place and assume this route has become very famous.

Road construction work is going on in a stretch about 8Kms after you turn left from GQ. We also came across some patch works between Uthangarai and Chengam. Guess it will be a relatively good drive in couple of weeks from now.

We made on halt around a village just before those level crossing at Samalpatti. This stop was due to those beautiful Sunflower garden we saw on the right side of the road. Had a photo session and started again.

I was about to cross the level crossing and just found that our Ikon was not behind, so slowed down a bit and stopped before the gate.

The guy lowering the gate gave a strange look to me, and then descended the gate. Now I see our ikon behind after a Innova. Around 10min wait time and I discover that I was not the only one who is passionate about Trains running on the track. Our srini was clicking pics of the train front, middle rear etc...

Then we reached the Sri Ramana Maharishi Ashramam around 5-5:30pm. Unfortunately we did not get any accomodation in Ashram. So, decided to check some near the Temple. We went straight to the parking lot of the temple, parked the car and checked for the lodges around there.

We got one called Kalaimagal Lodge for around 600rs per night. It was a A/C room with a clean toilet.

Me and Srini would post our clicks in here... So pics will be keep on coming Its nice or not is at viewers eyessssss.

The title got me confused for some time!

So, Mjothi at it again! And this time with a partner!!!

Looks like the roads are much better than what they were almost a year+ back. Hope they are getting better with time!

OT : did you buy "nongu" at the level crossing?

food served at the ashram is very good - do not know if they still continue to serve.

P.S. for those who are not aware - "nongu" is the fruit of the palmyra tree.

Ya. really great time. The temple was almost empty, no crowds. Espeically when you stay for the night and the hotel is right next to the temple, there is nothing to beat it. We sat in hotel till they closed it.

No buddy. I was searching for that. But surprisingly could not find. Only Mango and "pana vellam" was sold. Why so? Is it not the right season?

We did not had a chance to have food in Ashram. But I heard they still serve food from around 11:30am.

Default Here comes my side of story..we have a show stopper too.

Yes...after a long time, i'am writing a travelogue. There is a show stopper here too. Yes, it is true. Here is the story from my side.

This is the travel I have done without any planning and getting ready to go within 2 hours time...courtesy Mtemple (name changed now for this travelogue) MJ I hope you do not mind this.

The story goes like this:
I receive an sms from our good friend at 9.30 am in morning. I was having bath. After finishing, I checked up the sms and it read "Do you have office, if not can you join for a trip to Thiruvannamalai"...I was shocked. Sent sms back to Mtemple stating that Sat and Sun are my family days. But he replied back stating that he is going with family too. So there I was in dilemma. I told it may not be possible with such short notice. But my mind did not listen. Again I switched on to check my emails and then came again Mtemple on line for chatting. This changed the whole scene. We chatted for a few minutes and I was sure that I will going to this place. Now the difficult part came to inform my wife. Just I informed about the idea and she was shouting at me that without any information or planning how can I agree for such things. How can she get ready and make the kids ready for this trip (I hvae 2 kids for those who do not know). Got severe scolding from my wife. After all the drama, I finally made my wife agree for this trip. I sms'd back to Mtemple saying that we will be joining for this trip and we agreed to meet up at Karnataka border (Hosur) by 1.30 pm. It all happened within 1 hour from receiving the first sms from my friend Mtemple. For reading Karnataka Border from my house it usually takes around 1.5~2 hours. I had to work backward to find out how much time I have and it indicated I have to start latest by 12.00 noon. I explained this idea to my brother (who has come from Dubai on vacation) and lo he was also ready for this trip.

Now the big question is how to get ready in 2 hours for a 2 day trip. Lots of things to be done. So we just packed our things in suitcase. We had to withdraw amount from ATM, put petrol in car, check tyre pressure, pack some snacks etc etc etc.

As usual, we never leave as planned. We left at 12.30pm. Filled in petrol (HP) near my house and then the journey started exactly at 12.40 pm. Crossed Vijayanagar, no ATMs working, crossed Nararbhavi, again no ATMs working, finally we went into Kengeri Satellite town and alas a Corporation Bank was working. We withdrew money, purchased some snacks and then continued our journey through NICE road to reach hosur road near SKF. Finally reached Hosur at 2.25 pm. Again As Mtemple has informed, we had spoken to him earlier and I continued my journey to catch him at A2B. We also met Rahul (mclaren1885) at A2B. The time was 3.15 pm. Ordered for Lunch and then again started for Thiruvannamalai.

After Krishnagiri we have to take deviation to GQ and then after 100 meters we need to take first right to into which will take us to NH66. The roads were somewhat OK. Few stretches were good and few stretches had potholes. Stopped for some time for taking pics with near sunflower garden(?). Finally reached the destination at 6.30 pm.

The total distance travelled as 471 kms from my house to house.
The route as explained by Mtemple: Bangalore - NICE road -Hosur - Krishnagiri - Kannanda halli - Uthangarai - Chengam - Tiruvannamalai
Coming back: Same route
Time taken: 6 hours (after stopping at several locations for food, pics etc) while going and while coming back 4.5 hours with couple of stopping (excluding the show stopper time)

More to continue with pics…and show stopper.

Once we were in hotel, we refreshed ourselves and decided to visit the temple. We went to temple around 8pm. Since it was not a peak month there was no crowd. Infact, there were very less people and we had real good time for the Dharsdan.

The main Gopuram that you enter first is called the Rajagopuram. This is the 2nd tallest in India. Once you enter you will see the Murugar sanidi to your left. Visit and continue further. Dont be surprised if kids of around 10yrs and even lesser keeps bugging you to buy the flowers they sell. They will be found pleanty even inside the temple.

Then you will cross the Nandi. Towards the right hand side you have the Badala Lingeswar. Hostory says that Ramana maharishi was found here meditating and his body was eaten up by worms. One more Rishi has taken him from here to the Ashram.

We decided to visit here while returning after Unnamalai dharsan. This temple is constructed in 2 layers of wall. First layer have four Gopuram in each direction and the main is the Rajagopuram. Once you enter this layer, again you will find one more wall with 4 gopuram. And you enter this to see the Unnamalaiyan.

So, totally you have 9 gopurams in this temple. The 9th one is in the center.

We went inside and had good dharsan because of very few people. We walked so leasuirely around the temple. We say the temple door begining to close and it was when we started to move from temple. This is what a plus when you stay next to temple.

Had our dinner in the near by restaurant (Ganesh Bhavan). Had nice dosas, Othapam and coffee.

It was around 10pm when we hit the bed.

Just posting the pics of those magnificent gopurams.

Whichever view you see, one cannot miss those beauty and artistic work on it...

Next day morning, we got up at 5am and got ready to leave to temple. But since Srini mentioned that he can make it only by 7:30am, I SMSed him that I am leaving for temple and started. My idea was to finish one dharsan and be back by 7:30 so can go with them again to Temple.

We finished the a wonderful dharsan and had some couple of pics inside the temple. When we were about to leave, I see Srini and family entering the temple. So, I told him to conitnue and we waited inside the temple. It was so nice admiring those art works. Seldom we get time to spend like this.

My daughter was so happy and was dancing all the while and playing. When srini was back we left for breakfast. We had breakfast in the near by hotel called Arunachla. It has a restaurant also. Food was ok.

Some pics from temple.

Thanks Deepak.

Man, I never thought of this. Maybe Mtemple would have done this. As Ford has not approached US govt for aid. BTW, don't worry about GM and Ford in India they will survive to service your car.

@MJ - Lovely Pattu Paavadai for your daughter.

The person who had saved Ramana Maharishi from the worms was Seshadri Swamigal, if you go from Bangalore you would find Seshadri Swamigal Ashram first on the left followed by Ramansharam on the main highway just before you enter Tiruvannamalai town. Both these ashrams are peaceful places which allows you to spend some quality time.

Our trip to Tiruvannamalai has been pending for some time now, its due for our son's LKG admission, hopefully should do it within this month.
