Since the day TheOne started posting in TheYeti's blogs - it has been double the fun. She writes as well as (if not better at times) our own Yeti. And she clicks nicely too.

Waiting for the next installment.

Default YetiBlog® - 27th May 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to Frankfurt Airport.

I jump up and SMS. We've landed in FRA.
On my way comes the reply.

10 minutes later, I see a familiar Touareg.

Not one, but TWO beautiful girls have come to get the Yeti home.

The drive home is full of chatter, in German (me with the little one) and English, (all of us)

As we park, I see a little welcome on the ground outside the home.

I smile. It feels good to be back in Bad Nauheim. The weekend is gonna be great.

Default Evening in Bad Nauheim

It's a guys' night out.

We've left Jenny to her sisters and all the men are out. First we walk past the park and I stop at the same place where the lake was frozen the last time I was here.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8175_l.jpg

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8177_l.jpg
That plant was completely bare the last time I took a picture.

Spring has well and truly arrived in Germany. We walk through flowers of all kinds and more beautiful tulips.

I am telling my colleague about how Elvis Presley lived in Bad Nauheim.

He laughs.
I'm serious! Elvis lived here for 2 years while he was posted in the US army!
Jenny's BIL decides to walk us past Elvis' home in Bad Nauheim.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8178_l.jpg

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8179_l.jpg
The flowers still arrive everyday from scores of fans of The King.

Then the 4 of us go to this excellent Italian restaurant where we enjoy some of the best Italian food I have enjoyed in a long, long time.

A wonderful and slightly baudy, fun-filled guys night out ends with the most delectable Crepe Suzette ever.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8182_l.jpg

Back home the ladies are watching some chick-flick. My colleague gets the guest room, we relegate ourselves to the sofa in the living room. I am dying of sleep.
The sisters Schöffel chat the night away as I try (and succeed now and then) to sleep in the midst of it all on the sofa.

God, I really need some sleep.

Default YetiBlog® - Saturday 25th April 2009

Bang boom boom thud thud.

I awake with a start. It is too early. I can hear little kids running down wooden stairs.

Close your eyes hurry, pretend to be asleep or they will jump on us.
I know she's right. I need no prompting, my eyes don't open anyways.

-------------------------------------

It is truly incredible how these kids are brought up. The 3 and 4 year old have their own very little individual rooms that they decorate and maintain themselves. They have had these rooms since they were 2 and 3. These kids clean their rooms, eat like adults, with adults, often help their mom with kitchen chores and follow their patterns as best that children can.

They have creative freedom, time to play with birds and stones and mud and sticks and run as and where they please. I've never seen Jenny's sister run behind them with a plate in her hand shouting please eat please eat.
They may be madly naughty as is the right of any good child, but they will get into their child seats and seat belts without a fuss.

-------------------------

Ah crap, it's too late.
Suddenly the bed and all the sheets come alive. Oh NO!! The entire sofa is wriggling and little creatures are crawling all over my body. lol. So much for my sleep.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8188_l.jpg

And for the rest of you lot busy sniggering at the photo Jenny posted... I offer you the ultimate "Beauty in the arms of a Hairy Yeti" photo.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8194_l.jpg

After a little while of cuddling, everyone is up. We need some Brötchen for breakfast, shouts the kids' mother.
Want to come with me to the Backerei? Asks the kids' father.

Oh yes I do.
Ich auch
(me too) says a little voice rushing to get her shoes and push-cycle.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8204_l.jpg
It is a beautiful day outside the house. The sun is shining and reflecting off the almost fluorescent yellow of the rapeseed fields. Rapeseed is growing, both wild and cultivated everywhere in the country and is a popular source of cooking oil.

Little Celia pushes her push-cycle ahead of us through the little paths between the rapeseed fields.
YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8217_l.jpg

Suddenly she stops, dropping her cycle, running into the field and returning triumphantly holding something. As I walk up to her she holds a little dandelion blowball.

She puffs hard.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8206_l.jpg

She turns to me, slightly pink with the effort of that, mixed with the joy of having succeeded in blowing it all to smithereens.

Pusteblume!! she says excitedly.

I smile.

Hey, I noticed, and praised the great monster picture.

It even came into my mind some time today, when I was on the other side of the house from T-BHP!

Nick - I know a certain little chap who would be quite annoyed at having his beautiful dinosaurs referred to as "monsters" lol.

It's a short, but beautiful walk and makes me realise how tangible and real nature is, when it's just outside your home.
Old nature dogs like Samurai and others who live close to nature may smile at my statement, but I'm city-bred and this is truly wonderful to me.

The rapeseed fields, I take plenty pictures of, but somehow the colours and the colour range just does not show on my little D40. To the naked eye, in the bright sunlight it is like huge fields of uhh.. highlighters. lol.

This is one of those times I am forced to think of Rudra's statements on certain cameras displaying the colour range and tone.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8215_l.jpg

Now we're out on the main road.
YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8218_l.jpg

And then at the Backerei.
YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8219_l.jpg

Loaded with warm, fresh Brötchen in the bag, the walk back is filled with interesting conversations about how the German government intends to revive the sagging auto industry by offering 2500 euros to anyone wanting to change his old car, as an incentive to buy a good new car.
Ah the solutions of countries with reserves...

I take a few more photos before we get back home to a massive smorgasbord of a breakfast.

I go away for a weekend and you've posted so much! Enjoying the narration, but also Jenny's little snippets, cool stuff. Don't most children eat on their own by the age of 2, even 3? I know I don't and won't chase after my children to eat. If they're not hungry they go without.
Sam, are those yellow flowers rapeseed flowers?

It is a warm and beautiful day.

After basking in the sunshine for a while, I begin a series of brief business discussions with the kids, heh heh.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8231_l.jpg

A little while later we begin our lazy day.

Spring in beautiful Bad Nauheim, flowers everywhere and the wind blows petals everywhere. Perfect weather for a little walk to the park.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8233_l.jpg

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8234_l.jpg
The sidewalks are lined with petals... truly beautiful.

YetiBlog® - Sleepless in Europe-dsc_8236_l.jpg

In a little while it becomes clear to me that Madame is looking for a venue for the shaadi.

Now before this thread goes off track, I would like to firmly state for the record that we have no date and no plan as yet for the shaadi. MAYBE it will happen sometime in 2010 and you will all know in advance tab tak, aisehi saath mein rahenge - baap re baap (in the words of my various aunties lol.)

We drive a little to a beautiful place. It is an interesting place, but I'm not completely convinced. I will share a few photos.
Of course there is a place with more mineral water that is supposed to be excellent for health but well and truly tastes AWFUL.

We walk around the venue and a chef lets us in and shows us around.

That's you. Most mothers I see in India do this "One for Papa, one more for Nana. OK now one last one for pappu" routine. Most Indian kids are very far from self-sufficient at 2 years. And the question of helping with the house-work and eating with the rest of family does not arise. I'm strictly generalizing of course.
