Default Day 1 – 22nd November – Mumbai – Puttaparthi – 1000 Kms

The day had come and it was time to leave for yet another road trip which was going to be an exhaustive and quick trip covering the entire South India. We left at approx 4 in the morning and had a 1000km drive ahead of us that day. The stretch from Mumbai to Chitradurga 800 kms is a very fast and smooth and we did it in 9 hours flat totally non-stop. In fact we also clubbed our fuel and leak stops. We were carrying our food and did not need to stop for that either.

The next 200 kms were an exact contrast to the last 800. It took us 4 hrs to traverse this distance since the roads were very very narrow and in a devastated condition. Was a long day and the last 200 kms really killed us.

Default Day 2 – 23rd November – Puttaparthi – Kanchipuram – 300 Kms

23rd November is Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s birthday and we were lucky to get good darshan of him in the morning and hence we could leave from Puttaparthi by lunch. Our target for the day was Pondicherry(450 km) but we had to change our plan due to the bad road conditions and bad light. Hence we decide to stop over at Kanchipuram for the night. We reached there in time for an early dinner and did some silk shopping for mummy. Was another day made long and tiring by the bad road conditions.

Sorry..not too many pics on this day...

Default Day 3 – 24th November – Kanchipuram – Pondicherry – 150 Kms

This was going to be a very short and smooth drive but here the weather Gods decided to interfere and it began to pour cats and dogs. We left from Kanchi after breakfast and could reach Pondi only in time for a late lunch. Just to remind you - this was that time when Chennai and places around faced the flood.

It was raining in the Pondi but it was not difficult to travel. We managed to find a good hotel right next to the French colony bang on the sea face there. In the evening we got out and saw the place around and also went to Auroville – a.k.a. the Golden Dome. By then the weather had become bad again and it began to pour down real bad. The wind was so strong that one could see the parked cars shake/move. We were worried about the weather worsening over the days to come and hoped to see a bright and sunny days to follow.

Thanx a lot bro!!! well hindi and english are understood but not very widely in the interiors. But the language barrier is not a major issue at all.

Well in the north trip, hindi was understood and spoken by all so it was not a problem form me at all.

btw - i have spent 5 yrs of my college life in the south so i can understand and speak all South Indian languages to an extend

Default Day 4 – 25th November – Pondicherry – Kodaikannal – 450 Kms

This again had to be a quick drive since we had to ensure that we approach and complete the Kodai ghats in day light. It was a lucky day and we could make it to a point 50kms away from Kodai by lunch and had enough time to spare..

We reached Kodai and the weather there was amazing but as the time passed it became unbelievably cold and it also started to drizzle. We saw a few ‘sight seeing’ points and by dinner time the temperature had fallen to 7 degrees and the people there said that it goes down to 1 degree in the night and it really did get freezing cold in the night.
Next morning we checked out of the hotel did some more sight seeing and then left for our next destination.

View from our room at Pondi..
