Default Day Six: On the boat in Alleppey

As we traverse through the various waterways, we have no idea what direction to look in. It is beautiful, so beautiful it is almost painful.

TO our left and right we see fields like these:

YetiBlog® - Krash Kourse Kerala!-dsc_9434_l.jpg

Ahead, this beautiful waterway as we glide over the water.

On occasion we see other boats, more chillers like us. Everyone waves back and forth. It is wonderful.

YetiBlog® - Krash Kourse Kerala!-dsc_9454_l.jpg

Are we chilling? You bet.

Beautiful houses by the waterside. How I envy these folk.

We stop for lunch, says Sai, adjusting his lungi and going off to the kitchen. Soon we've docked to the side, just one boat ahead of us.

In 15 minutes, Kanan brings out the food.

YetiBlog® - Krash Kourse Kerala!-dsc_9466_l.jpg
It is a truly wonderful home-style meal. Avial, some cabbage bhaji with coconut, salad, papad, rice, dal and Karimeen fish. Honestly. the food is so tasty that we're completely stunned and happy.

The time is now 2, we stopped about about 1.30. We've finished lunch, but it appears to us that the staff has eaten too and have now decided to take a nap.
It seems we are to remain parked here for a little while.

Ah well, there are worse places to be in...

There's a banana tree to which we are tethered.

YetiBlog® - Krash Kourse Kerala!-dsc_9489_l.jpg

And the waterway ahead, full of the beautiful little things that makes life on the backwaters interesting and serene.

The houseboat was tethered to a banana tree? It hardly has any roots, a strong guy can uproot it. By the time you guys woke up from the nap you could have found yourselves at Kumarakom

Just kidding, there is hardly any flow in those waters.

A moment of retrospection and chat for the staff as they cruise.

They never bothered us for a minute. No extra chit-chat, they remained invisible as far as possible. Courteus, friendly and nice, we could not have asked for better folks.

We come to a massive lake and the motor is switched off.

It's about 6pm.
We stop here, says Sai.
Here?
Yes, we stop here and now we stay all night.

We were told earlier that this would be done. We're fine with it.

We settle down and await our sunrise.

And it's beautiful and one the most romantic things we've done. We sit there, having lost track of time as the sun goes to sleep.

This evening has been one of the best evenings of our life.

As we sit there and watch the sunset, I think back on the past few days.

Still seems hard to believe how much we've done in six days. In six days I've stayed in numerous hotels, visited 3 cities, travelled by air, road and train.
I've worked, had conferences, met my better half after weeks, met my fellow Team-BHPians, travelled with her by road and train, Cochin, calicut, fallen sick, recovered, seen Kerala flood over with excessive rain, seen the sunshine in Allepey...

And yet, less than a week ago, I was in Mumbai. This has truly been a crash course.

It is quiet. All I can hear is the watter lapping against the side of the boat and the insects, crickets and more. The staff have disappeared after asking us when we'd like dinner.
TheOne® is sitting in my arms and we stay there silently till the sun goes into hiding and it gets dark.

This one day has been the best day of 2009 for both of us.

At 8pm, I hear the dull thud-thud-thud of someone walking up the passageway in the boat.
It's Kanan the cook.

In a dish, he's carrying the prawns we bought in the afternoon. We both jump up with excitement. It's amazing what a spot of fresh air can do for your appetite.

Nice pics Sam.

Green fields, backwater, palm trees, house boat, nice food, coconut, clouds and finally, loved one.
Beyond this, what does anyone want? isn't it?
so romantic.

As usual, I am remembering one more song.

tenu le ke jana

look at this clip,

that supermarket is awesome! .many of us keralites/keralans are not aware of the life in west coast and in the lake territories(there are many).if you travel to the east ,then it is high ranges(hill stations).Sometime I too doubts whether the myth of parasu rama created kerala(from gokarna to kanyakumari) true!.

Lucky for the Yeti, the weather Gods played nice.
Although, he might have also liked the houseboat during the rains too...

I am surprised that it doesn't look any different than summer time. I went in March end and it looked like this: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/trave...ater-time.html
