A random shot taken by my wife near Thrissur, only later I realised that there were no pant people in that shot.

See those decorated elephants? This means they are at a temple ground and hence you have men in mundu, mostly kavi mundu which is kind of sacred type.

Yes, there was also instructions for Government staff to wear traditional/handloom/khadi on Saturdays. Next Sunday the newspapers were full of photographs and news of Government officers meetings where none did so!

Actually they were on a highway, literally blocking the traffic.

What?
Mandos?
Mundu?
Yeah! Fascinating.

I guess that Sam is playing it smart . He made a reference to "Mondas" "Mandos" or "Mundu" and now he is happily watching the "Mundu" fun from the sidelines while finishing his work in Rajkot.

Yes it is very common to see such processions on the road in festival season, especially in Thrissur and Palakkad districts.

Where is Sam, by the way??

Out in karnataka we call the mundu as "panchey" or rightly pronounced as "Punchey". But the Puncheys are mostly the off white/white colored ones and are not remotely as jazzy as "Lungis" prounced as "Loongi".

This Loongi is famous in tamilnadu i reckon.

These come in all vibrant colors and mostly in different sizes of checks pattern, stripes, designs etc. You cant try these colors or patterns in your pants or shirts for sure.

I used to tie/wear(?) them at home during my engineering days and they needed constant adjustment. There is nothing like you tie once and it stays like that the whole day. They need some quick 5 seconds re adjustment.

There are two people with pants. Please see it carefully. One with just short pant and one full pant.

This activity along with a cup of tea and the newspaper is what keeps us Mallus busy in Kerala.
