We passed by the tents at Sarchu, and were quite happy that we were not staying there. So it was time that we finally say bye bye to Ladakh for this year.

We reached KeyLong by 19:30PM. By the time we arrived HVK had already booked the last two rooms available in Chadrabagha Hotel of HPTDC. After three days thankfully we can indulge in a hot water luxury bath, and catch some good sleep. Tommorrow we fork to the Lahaul and Spiti valleys and the others continue to Delhi.

-----
A little later after we passed Sarchu Glenn's Scorpio had its engine malfunction warning lamp blink. This was the first time Glenn's scorpio had a problem. Whenever it blinks there was a total fuel cut off and power loss. We stopped by to check. HVK suspected air filter and fuel filter. HVK cleaned the air filter by opening and dusting it out. Fuel filter also was bled for any air bubbles and we started on the journey. But the warning lamp used to glow periodically. There was no pattern, but at times the warning lamp comes on with cut in power. From my understanding I assured Glenn that it is a sensor issue, and is never getting qualified to log a fault. I was thinking about oxygen / fuel sensor. So we pushed the Scorpio till Keylong slowly. So from Sarchu we reached Keylong at 19:30 with a slow drive. [Later it was found that the acceleration sensor had a glitch (it was a drive by wire vehicle), and changed that under warranty. Basically it is a potentiometer, and due to wear and tear there was a short to ground issue at some point, which basically is acceleration = nil, and ECU behaves accordingly and you get the power loss]

HVK - some questions
Are the following areas always accessible? Any winter restrictions?

1) Is the spiti loop always open?. Will it close down for winter?
2) How about Dalhousie, Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj , Manimahesh, chamba valley- via pathankot and via Mandi
3) How are the places below this area like kangra, Raniotal, jawalmukhi, etc..
4) How about Himalayan National park? does it need permits?
5) Does the road that we saw near sichling to pin valley join somewhere near kullu?
6) Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg always accessible??

At the same time we were in Leh, a jeep_thrills gang was on a big OTR drive mission. I also saw one of them in the M&M workshop in Leh

Yes, always open subject to sudden road closures thanks to heavy snowfall.

All the time. Dalhousie also receives snow, and you may not be able to go to Kala Top, Lakkar Mandi if the snowfall is too much.

Cold, but low altitudes

Accessible from near Banjar and Shoja towns on the Sainj (Rampur road)-Jalori Jot-Aut (Manali Road). Permits needed.

No roads, secluded valley, but there are trekking routes to Parvati Valley (Manikaran)

Always. Srinagar rarely receives snowfall. Pahalgam is always open. Gulmarg too, receives snow in end-Dec, but road is always kept open.

Basically, there is nobody to stop you, Snow fall or no snow fall, though roads are very well maintained and remains open most of the year till Kaza.

Any sudden snow fall may hamper the plan, few backup days and good backup preps can guarantee you the snow trip of your life.

I am sure you must have thru this, if not, a must go, and you will have Spiti, in top of your list during winters
A different Spiti - India Travel Forum, BCMTouring.com

Here is a little help, if you have Spiti in mind, file has lots of help you need

Bye Bye Ladakh
And now the most exciting part of the Journey - Lahul&Spitti. Somehow I loved this circuit than the Leh&Ladakh.
Best part was no more convey. We were on our own with Chief.
