With a life time full of memories she returned from Leh on 25.04.2011, with a promise to be back there again for a much longer time.

She reached Banaglore by 20:00PM, thanks to a delayed King Fisher flight. I am still listenig to her stories, the way I wnet non stop telling her after my trip in 2009.

I am very happy and feel proud for her to have gone ahead and made her dream to be at Leh a reality.

I must also admit that it was infact her that made me interested in tripping by executing a very well planned trip to Ooty in 2005. All I asked on that day was how do we go to Ooty? Can I drive. The answer was - YES. And there is no comebacks now!!

Lalu! Awesome pics man! took me on a trip down memory lane!
Now i feel like joining kumar's next expedition- all your fault for putting up such beautiful pics!
i also noticed some things changed- the markings on magnetic hill, for example. they've got new markings which are hopefully in the right spot

Dear All Fellow Raid members

I joined Team Bhp only around last month but read this thread today while replying to a query on leh trip

I remembered every day of this trip as i went through posts - Yes we enjoyed a lot on this trip - I came to know about this trip only around 5-7 days before the planned dates and I remember how heavy rains at that time reduced number of cars in the group . I had not heard about Mr HVK before this trip & joined the convoy as was bit afraid of doing this run alone as most of the people term Manali - Leh road as very dangerous unless you are going through posts in forums . This post is written with very detailed information , I found few things relating to my car & me so thought of updating the post -

1 Yes i drive bit fast but the idea was never to show off - its just that i enjoy driving fast & i will always wait ahead for the other team members to regroup and start .
2 One of the reasons of buying pajero at that time was Road trip t o Leh & I agree no matter how good a car is it is ultimately on the man to get best from his machine but someone has to start some day from something so there were bit of off road driving on way including near magnetic hill which was very scary while coming down in reverse , i could have probably gone bit higher than tracks but was short of courage for fear of overturning .
3 it was indeed very funny to look at photos & videos of pajero in sand - it was due to lack of knowledge , i am sure if I would have reduced the tire pressure car would have not suncked .
4 Diesel - I am very particular for fuels used in my car ,In the past had got my cars stranded just because i kept on looking for that good petrol pump and leaving few on way . But I have clearly told my fellow members that if they don't find fuel anywhere we will not only share the one extra in my boot but also from the tank if need arises . Yes we lost some time while searching for fuel on return maybe i was cautious but not selfish at any time . I was indeed worried about the fuel Quality so was always carrying extra fuel all the time Srinagar onwards -other team members were all carrying cans for Diesel but empty Ultimately when we could not found enough Diesel on way we happily shared this from extra I was carrying , Pajero normally gives an average of around 8 or so on highways but i was surprised that it gave around the same on dirt roads of Padum .
5 Yes I had to leave at Bhunter as I was absolutely in no position to continue and was running high on fever & my throat due to dirt was very bad . 3 Latvians have joined me ( I picked them from Delhi Airport ) after few cars dropped the plan and they continued with me till Hunter , I requested fellow mate from Chandigarh to adjust them which he happily did .

I started at around 6: 30 from Bhunter along-with other members but on different way - back to chandigarh , had breakfast in Leh and then drove all the way reaching Manali at around 10:30 in night , as against my hourly tea stops ( HVK Sir - do you remember ) i skipped even lunch and had dinner at manali . I was so tired up but instead of looking for hotel i thought to continue all the way to Chandigarh and finally reached Mohali at around 5 in Morning .. almost 24 hours of non stop driving alone going through some of the highest motor-able passes missing all of you and Yes i did jumped lot of Ghata Loops and had a very fast run on the way back. I called HVK from Chandigarh to inform that I have reached safely and he was very surprised to know that I made to Chandigarh

I must thank HVK ,LALUKs ,Glen ,Anirudhr , Vishal Bakshi & other members for making this trip memorable & please excuse me if there has been any inconveniences to any of you because of me .

I must highlight the Leadership of HVK who managed a successful trip with people from many diverse profiles in demanding conditions .

Looking forward to meeting you all in near future

Turbonator/Raj, great to see you here. Thanks for all the warm comments, yes, it was a wonderful trip, never mind the bit of leg-pulling here and there, that is what makes a great team!
We felt sad that you had to leave mid-way, am sure you would have enjoyed the rest of the trip too.
A drive to Ladakh brings out the best and worst in all of us, like many other challenging things we do in our professional and personal life, and I am sure that anxieties, fear, daredevilry, mental determination, comradeship and team spirit are part of such arduous trips. Looking back, it does sound impossible that 22 unrelated people from 6 different cities (and 1 other foreign country) got together over a fortnight to drive together, all united by the bond of online friendship, and each behaving in a restrained and mature manner - that is what deserves full kudos with blemishes and all.

Raj's driving skills are extraordinary and is a veteran of several long-distance drives. It is never easy to take out what was quite a new Pajero on a drive like Ladakh, with little or no support en route, and it is to Turbonator-Raj's credit that he managed very well. Probably the only car in the trip which did not demand any attention.

Hope to see you on another trip soon.

Hi Raj,

Welcome to the forum, and so glad to be in touch again.
It was some wonderful days that we've had. While looking back it still is a trip which stays fresh in our memories. Hope to see you in some drives some day.

Hope the log refreshes our memories

Hello HVK Sir & Dear Laluks

Thanks for your comments , I spent close to 4 hours reading all of the threads , showed some of the photos & video to my family . I sold Pajero few months back around 3 months after I bought Fortuner - not a very wise decision but since it was a company car and the only way I could get a new one ( got the 530D!) was to sell the old one.

So this year we do something in Fortuner ! please let me know your plans .

Welcome to TBHP Raj. It was fantastic having you on the trip and we can't thank you enough for those awesome Paratha's in Murthal and yes the permit as well (clearly shows my priorities in life doesn't it). As a matter of fact your getting stuck in Hunder Sand Dunes was the start of things getting interesting. I'm sure you would have read about me and Dr. Mandar disobeying HVK and paying dearly for it. Overall the trip was a great learning experience for me and me and Bidisha had an awesome time with everyone around.

+1 to that

HVK is planning another trip this year and a bunch of mad-cap Hydera-baddies (some 12-15 at the last count) are also planning to join him. We will have two 4X4 Pickup trucks (including one of yours truly) and would be great if you join as well in your Fortuner. This time we can go dune bashing all prepared

Cheers

Anirudha

P.S: The evening session at Hunder was one of those rare times when everybody was around and we had a good time polishing your packed Butter Paneer and other stuff :P
