Fantastic report, MX6! You just inspired me to hit a konkan strip soon..especially with my family!

Last year during September i had been to Diveagar-Shrivardhan. Attached is the pics on route from Diveagar to Shrivardhan which passes through the beach route. It was amazing view when it was drizzling. Must visit.

Default A trip to Bhuleswhar...

While MX6 recovers from his sprained ankle, permit me to do the honours

Of course, I can't match him on history, geography, garmin, photography etc. etc., I hope I can keep the readers engaged!

The temple = Bhuleshwar

Location = Right turn before Yavat (after Loni Kalbhor) while going towards Solapur from Pune on the Pune-Solapur road

Lineage (is this the correct word?) = approx 700 years old

Chief deity = Lord Shiva

A bit of history. Source is from another avid traveler's blog (thanks, ruhi @ wordpress.org) -

Quote:
The entrance of temple is very interesting. It is called “Gaimukhi construction” which dates back to Shivaji Maharaj’s era. The walls of temple are decked with beautiful carvings right from entrance.

Mythological Story -
Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati had a fight; angry Shiva came here to meditate. Devi Parvati, dressed as “Bhilla” woman danced to fascinate Shiva. Her beauty seduced him. They went to Kailas from here and got re-united.

The place got its name from this story. “To sedate” means “bhul” in Marathi. As Shiva was seduced by Paravati, hence he is also called “Bhuleshwar”.

There was huge Nandi inside the temple along with Ganapati idol in woman form. It is believed to be only such idol of Ganesh. Also there is huge spectacular bell outside the temple.
Other highlights in this area -
Plenty of birds of various varieties

Mistake we did -
To visit this place in scorching summer. There is absolutely no place around to sit / rest in the form of tapri or eateries, except near the temple.

The snaps -

a. The temple is perched atop this hill. See the winding road?
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-img_1847.jpg

b. The temple up close
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-img_1859.jpg

c. Inside the temple
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-sp_a0086.jpg

Not sure whether we were allowed to do photography in the temple, so clicked only the corridors

Default Missed my Palio...

At the base...
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-img_1848.jpg

And at the top!
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-img_1856.jpg

Can you feel the sun burning down? Missed my Palio and its AC.

But, what the heck. A man and his bike really bond in places like these...

BTW, that's not me, it is my fellow rider on his Unicorn. The Unicorn sailed smoothly in 2nd and 3rd, while my Gladiator had to shift down to the 1st at the last bend.

The road is in OK condition. However, the last few turns up towards the temple at the top are pretty sharp and steep. Better have the brakes in good condition...

For those interested in the gliterrati, enroute you can ogle at the farmhouse of a famous personality, whose house was graced by a hollywood angel not so long ago. I would rather ogle at the collection of cars that is reported to be in there ...

Great pics, vrprabhu. The 'point and shoot' I have could'nt do justice to this place when I went there an year ago. we continued further on that road eventually exiting onto NH4. It was a fun drive.

The ghat section was in pretty bad shape at that time. Add to it, multiple 'U' bends with incline combined.

One more clue. Rhymes with a 3 letter English word that's used as a single word question.

WOW man. So nice to see so much of water in Chandrabagha

This is all we had when we'd gone there. I'll probably plan a trip in Sept after Kaas again to this place.
