Hi Sir,

Matri mandir entry inside for meditation needs permission a day before your arrival there. I believe it is too short to get. We have seen the view from out side which is posted here again. To get inside with prior permission you should present your self at about8.30 am in the reception on the day of the permission. To visit from out side they will show the video for 5 minutes which desribes the concept and the history of making of Martrimandir. On comletion of the Video show you will be given pass. You have to walk for 10 to15 minutes. For senior citizens and children they provide a eco friendlyBattery car with one escort. The picture is taken on 2nd January

Excellent photos! Where is this childrens' park in Pondy? And where did you stop at Marakanam for bird watch? I did not see any locations to pull up on the ECR.

We made a rushed trip because we had to return before 3.00 PM. A fridge bought on New year's day was not cooling properly, so the dealer promised to come and replace it with a new one at 4.00 PM today.

We left home at 7.15 AM, went to Shell for a full tank and air check, then had breakfast at Hot Chips. Left from there exactly at 7.45 AM via Sanatorium bridge-Sholinganallur-ECR and reached Ashram at 10.20 AM. After meditation and visit to Manakula Vinayagar temple, had food at Ananda Bhavan. Left Pondy at 12.30 PM and arrived home at 3.30 PM, after the customary visit to Shell to do another tankful for mileage check. Mileage obtained 22.35 KMPL, 50% A/C usage and three onboard. Speed maintained was 70 - 90 KPH.

Sholinganallur route was bumpy as the black top was not good at many places. Returned through ECR-Kelambakkam-Tambaram.

HI Sir Gansan,

I have missed a couple of points to you. I could have told you to fill the tank in Pondy, which is cheaper by Rs 4 to Rs 5. I always travel with almost less than half tank and fill in Pondy. I filled 29 plus ltrs of Diesel for Rs.975.Then fill in Chennai and and check milage. Yes the OMR is O.K from Sholinganallur to Navalur or Siruserry. After that near Kelambakkam it is horrible two places in between Kelambakaam and ECR junction is having bumps. Tiruporur especially Paiyyanoor black top not good. I often bound to travel in this route, So, It did not strike to give the point here.

The bird watch is exactly not in Marakkanam. It is just after Mudaliarkuppam boat house on the opposite side. I mean on the right side of the road from Chennai to Pondy. The road side of the lake is marshy. Beware at the time of stepping in the half dry area. I stopped for 5 minutes. The childrens' park is near Ashram/ Near to A2B. Just take the opposite of manakular on right from A2B. You will reach the Govt General Hospital opposite of that the Hospital a park. There you can see the Aayi Mandap, the Pondy Government Emblem the same miniature you can see all the entries of Pondy. Behind the Ayi mandap is the childrens' park. Small free park. There is also a big Conch replica made in concrete. There are some sculptures in the park. Worth seeing.

Next week I am Planning to go to Golden Temple. I will start at 6.00 am.

As you do travel on week ends please check this thread too Enchanting Weekend Getaway Places Around Chennai

Thanks for the tips. I will visit those two places on my next trip. I am aware of the price difference for fuel between Chennai and Pondy, but I am partial to Shell fuel. If at all I fill at Pondy, it will be at the Ashram (BP) bunk.

We did the Sripuram trip in October. The report can be found here:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...lto-lxi-6.html (Blue beauty! Carib. Blue Alto LXi)

But no Sripuram photos, cameras were not allowed.

Yes I do fill there in Ashram's B.P or some times in the HP outlet opp to Pondy Engg College. Sripuram, I visit almost every month. I am waiting for a guest on Friday. So sure I have to take them to Sripuram on Sat or Sunday. I do know that they don't allow Camera as well as the half pant and Lungiwala's.Thirividandhai Nithya Kalyanan and Kandasmy of Tiruporur are my favorites I visit them every now and then. Any other places pl let me know.

Nice log. I understand how it feels when your family falls sick when you are close to your travelin schedule. Good that your son recovered soon !

Dune, is the best for now in Puducherry, though its the costliest but worth it ! We were there about 2 years back and thoroughly enjoyed the stay as well as the food. My wife who is really particular when it comes to food still talks about the food at the Dune which I second. But the beach was something that didnt impress me much as it was high tide all the time during the day. I think majority of the Bay of Bengal beaches down south are high tide !

Thanks Siva. My wife and me are already planning again to Pondy and this time it would be Dune where we want to stay.

Last Sept i was there, rooms are pretty good. Access to the beach is also good. But the food is horrible. My suggestion, if you are travelling in your own car, stay in James and go to the city for food, which i did while i was there in James.
Breakfast is complimentary and it is pretty ok.

Default Nalla?

Has anyone tried the Nalla resort? Any other suggestions?

I am looking for two things:

1. Air-conditioning (Dune's A/c. rooms are too expensive)

2. Beach.

A distant third on the wish list is good room service.

If a decent hotel on the beach is not available, we would like a hotel with a pool.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

Hi Ravv,

Not heard about the Nalla. You can try the Hotel Ashok next to the EcoDune. It is quite good and has good access to the beach in front. Alternatively, in Pondycherry at the end away from the Gandhi statue (beyond the Hidesign hotel) there is a smaller 3 star accomodation called Executive Inn which is quite comfortable (and reasonably close to the beach). Hope this is helpful. If you are in Pondicherry this week, the Aurobindo Ashram is celebrating the 100th year of Sri Aurobindo coming to Pondycherry. Plus several other summer programs organised by TN Tourism. Check them out.

Cheers,
Spyder
