@laluks, inspired by your travelogues I am planning a trip to Ooty, just wanted to know what is the best time to vist Ooty.

Your travelogues is nothing less than a short story, very well narrated, I am sure you must have enjoyed every bit of it and nice photographs too.

Thanks Wind Splitter.
I have been there in May and in September. May was with lots of flowers everywhere, and nice cool climate - but over crowded. September was kind off ooty for yourself.

March/beginning April (before the school vacation period) will be an ideal bet if you want to go soon and enjoy ooty calmly.

beejay will be able to give you more ideas.
@beejay are you there ?

I am going on Feb 27/28/29. This is the travelogue I have based my plans on . My Parents/Bro want to take the Bus, I want to take the car. . The Cost difference is coming to only a about 500 bucks, so I think I have an advantage.. hehe..

I nearly forgot how beautiful Ooty is! I grew up in Ooty (undoubtedly the best years of my life). Your pics have inspired me to make a trip down (sorry up) to OOTY. Maybe I should take my dog along and show him the hillocks I ran around in.

you've covered the entire area better than the localites too. ( hope beejay doesn't get offended. )

i went there pretty late and did not want to venture out further into the lonely area. i turned around where the road got into think forestry. I was returning when another family asked for the route..it was 6 pm in dec i discouraged them coz of the place being very lonely. they still carried on though.

Please suggest/list the petrol pumps along the way to Ooty which provide less/non adulterated petrol.

Most decent pumps in Ooty centre is Ok as far as I understood. Else I had a good experience from the HP petrol pump near Charring cross.

Default Civved : Ooty

The long weekend in August, August 15th and August 20th as holidays, which makes it a cool 6 days of freedom. Way back in Jan 2012 when we saw the holiday plan for the year itself we were thrilled at this weekend. Some time in February we decided we will go back to Ooty. So had a call to Club Mahindra and got us confirmed accomodation for three nights at Ooty.

We had been to Ooty in 2006 May and again in 2009 November. So considering we are going back in 2012 August, Ooty seems like a three year plan for us .

I was thinking that this will be the first travel for me in 2012, but I was proved wrong.

Two impulsive travels were undertaken

One to the Himalayas with HVK

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...al-ghosts.html (Cliffhanger Himachal, Hidden Kashmir and a search for Mughal Ghosts)

The next one to Dudh Sagar in a Tata Aria
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...bangalore.html (Dudh Sagar Falls, Goa - A Weekend Getaway from Bangalore)

The third one this year was to Ooty. This time my Civvy gets to see Ooty.

Day 01
17th August 2012

Since we had seen most of Ooty, this trip was just to relax. For a change I carried books to read. It's been a while since I caught up on my reading.

Instead of early morning starts that we are used to, we started only by 05:30AM from home.

Civvy ready for going to Ooty
. She has never been to Ooty before. 2006 it was my Esteem, 2009 it was my Swift and now in 2012 it is my Civvy that takes us to Ooty. She has done 79500KM by now, of which last year she just ran 7000KM.

we exited Mysore in no time and we were already speeding towards Bandipur.

We reached Club Mahindra Derby Greens at Ooty by 11:30AM. We were immediately allotted our rooms.

Derby Greens is very near to Ooty Race course. It is near to Ooty bus stand and Ooty railway station.

In fact we had stayed here in our visit in 2006. That time it was called Ooty Dasaprakash. The place was beautiful as it was way back in 2006.

Our favourite dish in 2006 was Palak paneer and we ordered the same now too. The taste is just the same. We loved the beginning of our stay...

I was unable to return many phone calls the previous day. Interestingly I found a call from TBHPian mjothi. He had not called me for atleast an year plus now. I called him back. He wanted to ask me where to go for the long weekend. I told him I am at Ooty and weather is chill. He was interested. Finally he confirmed by late evening that he is coming over next day. You can read about his trip here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...trip-ooty.html (Queen, here we come with our Prince & Princess - Trip to Ooty)

After lunch relaxed for a bit before I set out to research the facilities in the resort.
