| Day 2, November 28th 2009 Continued Thread Garden The Thread garden is on the Northern side of Ooty lake, or to be precise in front of the old Boat house. Many flowers have been created using hand wound thread. It took 50 people, 12 years to complete what you see in the garden. From outside the Thread Garden looks unimpressive. ![]() Then what's the deal any way? ![]() This is what it is all about. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() continued... |

| Day 2, November 28th 2009 Continued Thread Garden Some beautiful flowers ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The best - Neela Kurinji (Strobilanthus), which blooms once in 12 years. Theory says the Nilgiris got its name because of these blue flowers. Check my travelogue http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...ur-munnar.html on Kodai and Munnar to see these flowers in full bloom in its natural surroundings which I captured in 2006. Here is one flower for you. Next bloom is in 2018. | Day 2, November 28th 2009 Continued Ooty Boat houses We finished with the thread garden by 15:00PM and visited the old Boat House which was just opposite. As usual rush for people to do boating, and the parking woes, we just took some photographs and decided to leave. We had done boating on this lake in our last trip and that's pretty much Ok for the kids, and we moved on. Boat House I ![]() ![]() You can plan your visit - These are the locations TTDC suggest. ![]() I must admit you need atleast a week to see Ooty in its Splendour, short visits and touristy places never makes justice to Ooty. We drove further along the road keeping the lake to our left, and little later we reached the second boat house, relatively new called the Honeymoon boat house or Boat house II. This one seemed to be calm as compared to the old boat house. Few "young" couples were boating and enjoying their day. Here cycles are available - for small kids (with side wheels) as well as adults. You have a little bit of greenery and paths along which you can cycle. On the whole you can spend some time here if you like. Boat House II (Honeymoon Boat House) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We finished with the boat house by 15:30PM and drove further along the lake. continued... |

| Ok did you go to Deer park which used to be there near the lake side. I remember there used to be one long time ago, this used to be a favorite hangout of ours as this was close to the school i studied and this was a route for our routine morning run |

| Day 2, November 28th 2009 Continued Deer Park We found a Deer Park on the way and decided to look in. We were just lucky, the park closed by 16:00PM and it was already 15:45PM when we entered to the park. | Day 2, November 28th 2009 Continued Arboretum On the way we stopped at the Arboretum to take a look. Arboretum Arboretum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia An arboretum is a collection of trees. Related collections include a fruticetum (from the Latin frutex, meaning shrub), and a viticetum, a collection of vines. More commonly today, an arboretum is a botanical garden containing living collections of woody plants intended at least partly for scientific study. An arboretum specialising in growing conifers is known as a pinetum. Power Puff Girls at the entrance of the Arboretum ![]() Info on this Arboretum ![]() Senior Power Puff Girl inside the Arboretum ![]() Sunflower ![]() A nice little flower up close ![]() After visiting the Arboretum we found the Lake Road ended. We drove back to Charring Cross to fill up some petrol for the Red Riding Hood. We also wanted to get some Pizzas. By 16:30PM we reached Charring Cross and took a break for pizzas, from a friendly little shop run by a lady near the Petrol pump. continued... |
