Sirji, it's simple, you see two buttons at the bottom right corner of each post.
One is 'Quote' and the other 'Quote+'

The quote+ is for multiple quotes in a reply. Just click that button for all the posts you want to reply and finally, click on "New Reply" button!

this way, all the posts you want to reply appear in a single window!

Hope this helps!

How did you cross Visakapatnam was it through the bypass or did you take a turn near Anakapalle and went through Gollalapalem, Pendurthi Vemulavalasa. This road through Pendurthi is good but lot of lorry traffic very scenic too.You can save about 45mins to 1hour than travelling through Visakapatnam bypass during the day time.

We stuck to the GQ and did not take any diversions. (Madam Ellen in the GPS was happy too! )
Crossing Vizag bypass was not at all a problem and we did not face any jams.

Default Wrong side traffic flashing lights in AP & OR

There is one thing common in North Coastal AP and Orissa. Dudes on motorcycles and Indica drivers come on the wrong side of the divider (in the fast lane) and then have the cheek to flash their lights at you.

Though I was a bit amused by this, I was mostly annoyed. Soon I hit upon a formula. I would start putting on the lights on the Laura one by one (the parking lights normally stay on when I drive on the highways to improve my cars visibility to others). 1st stage, I switch on the fog lamps, 2nd stage I flash the high beam, 3rd stage I fix them with the HID low beam, if the damn fool has not reacted by now, I put on the high beam via the switch. By the fourth stage there are 8 bulbs aglow on the Laura vs. the poor chaps one or two and he gives up.

Re. Gajadonda's query on getting through the jams at the checkposts - the technique employed was: Pretend you are a government driver carrying a big shot and move your car forward at any cost. Switch on lights, honk liberally and occupy any vacant space on the road whether it is on the right side or the wrong side. However do remember that discretion is the better part of valour.

Cheers,

Great pictures there Nazim ( some of the long exposure ones have come out quite good) and nice supporting write up from Ravvs.

Banana road description was hilarious and i can imagine seeing so many "kela's" in one place...LOL. During my trip to Mahabaleshwar ( May'09) it was the mango season just after Sadishivpeth i encountered a similar scene. Every single open place was filled up with mangoes. Unfortunately, i took a single picture and not as many as Nazim snapped away.

Waiting for pictures of exotic land to come up soon. Keep it going !!!

Amazing pics of NH60 and NH34.

Well, that power plant before Siuri was Bakreshwar Thermal power Plant.

Nice to see the Farakka barrage (My Granddad was one of the engineers who worked during the construction of farakka barrage way back in 1969-72)

Frankly speaking you passed through some places in OR, WB and NE where digicam and Skoda are still a dream or may be out of it. hence such a suprising response from the crowd.

Abhi

Default Monday (Day 3) Rambha to Siuri

Eeeps, seems I have been slacking and have not yet reached Siuri while Nazim is clipping along and has already reached Malda etc.

Malda showed us how many surfaces a vehicle has that people can hang on to, sit on, lean on etc. That Circus however man took the cake. He was standing there on the bonnet counting his money while the Trekker was going some 30 to 40 kmph.

Back to the story:

Monday morning came with us being out of the rooms and in the parking lot much before sunrise. Sunday's drive was truncated and we did a part of it on Saturday so Sunday morning was relaxed and we left after B'fast. No such luxuries on Monday as we were now back to the schedule and had tight time lines to maintain.

The day started with me fixing the doggie damage. No not the kind that you scrape off your shoe after a walk in the park, I just fixed the reflector of the right fog lamp which had got dislodged when the dog ran across the road. Next we lined up the Laura in front of a white wall in the parking lot and adjusted the lights. There was not much we could do about the main beam but the high beam did yield to our entreaties.

We set off from Rambha and stopped a little after Barkul for tea. Soon we were greeted with an absolutely great road and the icing on the cake was that there was sparse traffic at that time of the day. This gave Arun an opportunity to push for the trip's top-speed record.

AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-p1040159.jpg <br />
We got a chance to savour the gorgeous sunrise through the mist: <br /> <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-p1040154.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-p1040156.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-p1040158.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-p1040157.jpg <br />
We pushed along till Bhubaneshwar, stopped at Hotel Presidency for B'fast and quite literally stuffed ourselves at the buffet so that we could drive till at least Kharagpur before our next meal halt. <br /> <br />
On the way we realised that we need not go into CCU on our return so we decided to hunt out the Hotel Park in Kharagpur, have lunch and do a recce of the place. <br /> <br /> <i>A few pics of the scenery, mostly pastoral, in Orissa. A few shots show the effects of a drizzle on the window:</i><br /> <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2481.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2482.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2483.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2485.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2494.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2496.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2499.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2503.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2507.jpg <br /> <br />
I decided to give the others a break and to drive from Badrak onwards since by all accounts the road between Badrak and Bhaleshwar was a goner. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the road was patched up. It was by no means a great road and it is a rough single carriageway with 2 lanes and several diversions but it was not the moon surface we expected. Jhaleshwar check-post greeted us with a jam that we managed to clear in about 15 minutes. <br /> <br /> <i>Why is the driver goofing off? </i><br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2508.jpg <br /> <i>Oh! we are in a jam. Must be a check post.</i> <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2509.jpg <br /> <br /> <br />
Once past Jhaleshwar, the road is a nice concrete road, the only glitch is that the bridges are misaligned so you get a nasty jolt as you get on or off them. We took the road into Kharagpur and checked out the Hotel Park (but not before Arun and Nazim checked out the IIT). We had a nice lunch there and plonked down 1K for 2 rooms for the night of the 2nd January (in hindsight - an error). <br /> <br />
My recollection of that afternoon is a little hazy as the lunch + lassi made me groggy so I slept in the rear while someone (I think it was Nazim) drove us to CCU. On the way several phone-calls were made and received to fix up a precise rendezvous with Tirthankar and we did spot him just as he was getting out of his immaculate Innova. We were glad to see a familar face so far from home and would have loved to spend more time but the dusk was gathering and we still had a fair distance to cover before we reached Siuri for our night halt. We therefore chatted with Tirtankar for a bit, relieved ourselves and got our shots of nicotine before we set off again. We stopped at a BPCL with a Ghar Dhabha and refuelled and fine tuned the high beams before setting off with the GPS set for Panagarh. On the Durgapur expressway, I was following a bus who was going along at a good clip (about 80 to 90 kmph) and literllay pushing everyone out of his way but after about 30 km the bus driver decided that he has had enough of what he probably saw as a freeloader, pulled to the left lane and shooed me on. <br /> <br />
Once in Panagarh we asked for the right turn to Siuri and drove along that lovely road with sudden potholes. Ilam Bazar brought us to a toll gate and we paid Rs.4/- the least we paid on the whole trip towards a toll. After a long stretch with sporadic headlights blinding us, we came upon the lights of NTPC Barkeshwar and promptly stopped for a photo session. Nazim and Arun pulled out their tripod while I gamely tried with my bare hands. <br />
Siuri was deserted even at that early hour and we took a while to locate the Sarada Lodge which is just off the main road to right after the bus stand. We had dinner first before we went up to the rooms. The dinnner was absolutely fantastic and we relished every bit of it. We went up to be met by the owner, a lovely chap who takes great pride in what he does. For anyone passing that way, Siuri can be recommended as a night halt only because of Sarada Lodge, that hotel is that good.<br /> <br /> <br /> <i>Quite happy to be in WB for the first time in his life: </i><br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2512.jpg <br /> <br /> <i>Smokestacks announce that we are now in WB </i><br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2513.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2514.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2551.jpg <br /> <i>Lower WB has its share of picture perfect fields and farm buildings.</i><br /> <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2516.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2517.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2519.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2522.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2523.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2524.jpg <br /> <br /> <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2540.jpg <br /> <a href=AP to AP: In search of a white X-mas and found a street party!-100_2530.jpg <i>Just another way of keeping myself occupied: Self-portraits.</i></div> <div style=
