Ganga snaan aur kashi mein maran, dono punya dayak hote hain.

Despite the effluents, there's no way one gets ill on any account by bathing or touching the ganges at Varanasi and beyond, in fact at Allahabad, (which is by way no less purer or devoid of effluents) millions bathe on account of the Kumbh mela, there's no advisory or ill effects post that. After all medicare at the Kumbh mela is free and even at the rate of 10% it has to hurt someone on account of all that medicare.
