Our budget was not shoe string.

I made this experiment purposely to get the experience of self arranged trip.

If you plan in adv, you will save huge cost.

We spent that saved cost on shopping.

Everyone made shopping like there is no tomorrow.

Everyone from my group is happy with the arrangements in the trip.

Brilliant travelogue Ashish. It was fun reading it from the start to the awesome climax at the end. Kudos to you for planning the trip so well and so cost effectively.

Any idea how much your food/water expenses were?

I remember paying Rs. 60 for a 750 ml bottle of water - and we drank lots of water/cola during our Malaysia trip!

My original plan for this trip was to visit kl for 5 days at the budget of rs 18000.
Our boys demanded to visit Singapore also and i have to squeeze the time for kl to 4 days and Singapore for one day as we could not change our booked flight dates due to promotional fares.

after the experience, i found that my original plan was good.

the food cost varies from person to person.
it was anything from rs 3000 to unlimited.

Ashish. Good one there. You got my old memories revving up now. Is it ok if I load some of the photos of singapore and kl you've not seen here in your travelogue?

Exactly my point. Why waste(or rather "Not Save") money while travelling LCC if you can spend the rest on either a better accomodation or shopping etc. I know the reputation of LCC is a bit skewed for the news of delays and cancellations but then people seldom know that other FCC flights also get cancelled and delayed but their issues seldom gets highlighted.

Cost of return ticket for 1 PAX via Malaysia Airlines = 22525.00
Cost of return ticket for 1 PAX via Air Asia= 9000.00
Savings = 13525
Smiles on the Face = Priceless

Only key thing I would advice as also mentioned by Ashish and others
1. Plan Early.
2. Keep distances between your flights.
3. Check for Feedbacks on Internet for LCC and go for the ones WHO CARES (as we just read about Ashish's experience).

I remember the days when I the days when we used to fly Pune-Delhi via Airdeccan, Spice Jet and Goair for 500-1000 all inclusive and for the money saved, we used to take gifts for family members. What did we miss? Just the food in the flight. Paying 3K for a meal? Not worth IMHO.

I remember an instance wherein my flight ticket was 228 (Re1 + 227 Airport Tax) and the autowallah charged me Rs. 300 to take me to Pune Airport from the City.

And Finally: -
Ashish, come up with a movie named "The Low Cost Travel Planner".

Rajababu a.k.a Ashish thanks for sharing your trip log here. I was holding onto my horses all this while waiting for you to complete the travelogue.

Made for a nice read pal and I still sometimes sit back and laugh at teri-maa-ka-c. Apparently the Singapore leg of your journey was too cramped man. I mean what would you do in a day there ?

Once again thanks much for an interesting travelogue.

Ashish, it was a really useful and informative thread, it will always remain in my favourites as a guideline on many things. Climax was superb, as a well written movie script. Waiting for your next trip !!! All the best !

Ashish, what you have come back to india so soon?

That was a lovely whirlwind trip and one of the best seen in a long time. The amount that you spent is usually just the airfare so this trip can be truly called "VFM"

Amazing climax to a lovely journey. Great Job
