Default Day 2 - Morning Half

Day 2 : Sunday 21-Feb-2010:
Woke up "aaram se" on Day 2 as most of the morning was planned for the beach only. After a nice breakfast at the Garden Restaurant (Pls note breakfast timings at the restaurant end at 10:30 AM, hence dont wake up too late or else you will not get breakfast) we hit the beach for a second innings.

The day being Sunday, I was expecting some crowds on the beach but it was clear. We had the beach for ourselves. My kids enjoyed their sand castles and post that, we all had an excellent time in the water.

Default Day 2 - Post Lunch Session - On the way to Jaigad Fort

Day 2 - Post Lunch Session:

Came back to our room at 1:00 PM, refreshed and had our lunch. After a small nap, we left for Jaigad fort. From the info that I had collected, the fort was in ruins but the view from the fort was excellent and boy, the view was indeed worth the drive down.

Jaigad fort is at a distance of approx 20 Kms but as the roads are winding and the scenary excellent, you would need approx 45 minutes to reach the fort. As you can see from the snaps below, the beach stays with you for a good amount of time, hence making the drive worth it.

Default Day 2 Continued - Jaigad and Prachin Konkan

Jaigad fort:
It took us approx 45 minutes to reach Jaigad fort as we had stopped a good bunch of times for snaps, etc. When we entered the fort, this was the first view

and we thought "Was the drive for this". We climbed to the top floor of the fort and the view was really mesmerizing.

Views from diff locations inside Jaigad fort

We stayed at the fort for approx half an hour as the breeze was excellent there.

Prachin Konkan exhibition:
On our way back, we thought of going for the Prachin Konkan exhibition. The entry fee is Rs 15 for an adult, Rs 10 for a kid and Rs 10 if you wish to take a camera along (Mobile camera's are free). If you ask me, the exhibition is strictly "ok" as there is nothing spectacular there.

Pls note that Prachin Konkan closes at 6:00 PM with the last guided tour starting at 5:00 PM, hence if you are planning on taking one, be there by 5:00 PM. The only saving grace there was the hot "ukdiche modak" that we had at the canteen there.

Default Day 2 - Sunset at Ganapatipule

After seeing Prachin Konkan, we were back to our room by 6:10 PM and after a glass of hot coffee, sat down to watch sunset from the bench outside our room. The sunset was really beautiful. Slowly with the setting sun, me and my wife were being hit with the upcoming "Bombay Blues" as we would be coming back to reality i.e. our day to day life, the next day . We just didn't want to come back. Alas!!

Post sunset, we went to a small restaurant called "Hotel Swathi". This restaurant is in the line of shops outside the temple and is famous for a dish called "Kaju Usal". Believe me, the place is ok, but this dish is excellent. We had Kaju Usal and Chapati and kids had some rice. So next time, folks do try it.

Default Day 3 - End of the journey

Day 3: Monday 22-Feb-2010:
Nothing much was in store for Day 3 apart from the travel back. We woke up early and checked out by 8:00 AM. We visited the temple (I didn't take my camera along thinking photography was prohibited inside the temple premises but looks like it was only inside the main premises and folks can take photographs from outside). Post temple visit, we went for breakfast at the "Tarang" Restaurant in the upper section.

Post a hearty breakfast, we finally said bye to Ganapatipule with a heavy heart and with a self promise to return back soon.

We left Ganapatipule at 9:15 AM. The "masti" done during the last two days took its toll on the kids and the moment we left Ganapatipule, the kids went to sleep, hence giving me the scope to drive non-stop again all the way to Vittal Kamat's at Mahad.

We reached Vittal Kamat's at 12:15 PM, woke up the kids and had a good lunch. I felt that the service was very slow there. Left Vittal Kamat's at 1:30 PM and were home at 4:30 PM.

This my friends was my unforgettable trip to Ganapatipule. Hope you guys liked it. Any questions, feel free to ask and I would try and answer the same.

Cheers

Hi

You helped us to re-live the 3 trips we did to Ganpatipule.
the sun set snaps are great. Prachin Konkan snaps have also come nice.

did you miss visiting Poet Keshavasuta's house at Malgund ? I did not see any snaps.

Are the water scooters out of service now ?

Did you taste authentic konkani thali food available at restaurants / homes outside the MTDC resort ? Sol kadi ?

Very frankly, we didnt get time to go there. The kids just didnt want to go anywhere as they wanted to spend all possible time on the beach.
Anyway I look at it as an oppurtunity to go back again
Yup, we did taste authentic Konkani food. Sol kadi was a hit with the family. Another dish that everyone liked was the ukdiche modak.

Didnt see any water scooters there. I believe till end-March, it is supposed to be off-season, hence maybe the water scooters were not there.

Nice pics.
I always recommend to stay at konkani huts in Ganapatipule mtdc.

Btw, it seems that you had not stopped at Derwan, famous for shivshrushti, near Sawarde, 25 km before Chiplun on Ratnagiri road.

If instead of driving, one needs to take a train, which is the place to get down? Is it Ratnagiri?

Yes, Ratnagiri is the Rail head. You can get a bus or Auto rickshaw for Ganapatipule.

Auto might cost inbetween Rs 250-300 depend on bargain
