The next to last picture - it looks the city has a separate track/road for bicycles.

Everything is so spaced out in the city. Nice!

Default Beach without any Sand

For the first time (oh no, second time) in my life i was seeing a beach without any sand (just remembered, first one being our own good old Nariman point in Mumbai.)

I was told, spending some time in hot sauna and then jumping into freezing cold sea water (or semi frozen sea) is one of the popular
leisure activity in this part of the world.

Backwaters

Sea Facing Houses, i was told these are the most expensive houses in Malmo, It seems ability to attact direct SUN light seems to be a wanted thing in Sweden.

We visited Turning Torso, which is located just behind the sea facing houses. here is some info from wiki

Quote:
The tower reaches a height of 190 metres (623 feet) with 54 stories.Upon completion, it was the tallest building in Scandinavia the tallest residential building in the EU and the second tallest residential building in Europe, after the 264-metre (866 ft)-high Triumph-Palace in Moscow
more info can be found on the wiki page Turning Torso - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Presenting here some images of the tower shot by me.

What's so special about Indigo? Just another name is it?
Do you've more sunset shots? Pls post them if I'm not asking too much.

Yes, Town planning is a highly specialized job, it needs good amount of vision, useability knowhow, population evolution, co-ordination among all the essential services, security, policing, traffic management etc etc.
I do not want to compare the status in India, but i would like to say, even the socalled most planned townships viz. Chandighad, Navi Mumbai etc are way behind the small village/town i visited during this trip.

It is not just the name, It has "Indi" in it, it has "go" in it., No i am just kidding, it was the only boat of which i noticed the name.

We do not have more shots of sunset, actually it was just about 5:15 PM when we visited the beach. We did not wait till actual sunset as we had more in the mind.

my colleague invited us to his home, we did not want to miss visiting a home in a foreign land. so we jumped on to the car and proceed towards his home.

I am adding few photos taken on the way.

Aah!!! sorry more more questions; Are there Tacobell, Arby's, Sbarro, Subway, Chipotle, Starbucks outlets or only just McD? Did you've a chance visiting any of the outlets? How's the menu & any local flavour added or just the international menu? I remember the McD in Frankfurt airport had some local German flavours.

Default Visit to Colleagues House and a Taxi ride

Soon we reached my colleagues house, i will not write much our our discussions, we spent about hour plus at his house and enjoyed the hospitality and conversations.

the main highlight of the visit was the 2.5 year old daughter of my colleague. She is already in kinder garden school and is learning Swedish. She mixes Swedish with her mother tounge. The parents struggle to understand her Swedish, but i am sure she will learn the language fast and will be fluent in no time.

I am attaching some photogrpahs of the residential area they are staying. there are open parkings, underground parking, individual garages, gardens and ofcourse multistory highrises.

Garden

Residential Highrises

Soon we left for the dinner, my colleague ordered a taxi, I am attaching some images of the gadgets inside the taxi. I do not remember the make/model of the taxi.

Dashboard

GPS and Walkie/Talkie, ID card

Payment Terminal

Bill Printers

Teminal User Interface
Business with Pleasure in the City of Ideas : Lund, Sweden-10-taxi-payment-ui.jpg

Interestingly when i paid the bill via my AMEX card, the driver wanted to see my ID card. I showed him the driving license. He noted down the DL number as a reference on the payment slip. When asked he said, it is a rule in Sweden to note down the ID number along with the signature for authenticity of the transaction so that it can not be disputed later on.

We reached our dinner place, i will cover it in detail in my next post. It was an different experience altogether.

It was an Mangolian Barbeque place.

Business with Pleasure in the City of Ideas : Lund, Sweden-09-barbeque-contents-meat-veggies.jpg

One has to choose whatever (item/qty) one wants on a plate

Top it up with the various sauces (chilly, vinegar, lemon, Tomato, etc etc)

Owner & Cheff preparing the barbeque. Owner is from Assam, India, living in Sweden his lifetime, still he knows some hindi.

the cooked barbeque can be topped with several sauces (curd, etc) & Rice
Business with Pleasure in the City of Ideas : Lund, Sweden-12-various-toppings-rice.jpg

Then one has to eat the barbeque. First time it could be so bad that following song is remembered.

Diya Jale, Jaan Jale, Muh bhi Jale

Beauty of the resturant is that one can leave the plate and start afresh
Try..Try..Untill you succeed.

Once finished with eating the barbeque, one MUST eat the desert ensure that the fired up dragon face is brought to normal.

If still one is not cured, then order few more drinks and sleep under the tree.

We finished our dinner by 9 PM, dropped my colleague back to his home, thanked him for the wonderful evening so far away from home.

We reached Lund by 9:45 PM, we had a flight to catch in the morning
we requested for a wake up call at 4 AM, Settled the bill, Packed the bag and hit the bed.

Whew!!! So finally heading back to home; I know how it feels
Did you like the Mangolian food? Once when I entered into a Mangolian restaurant in US, the first thing I saw was some kind of fire & a big meat, looked like some animal that has its legs chopped & skin peeled off & was being put over fire; that's the first & last look and I'm done entering Mangolian restaurants.

Looking at the photos of the taxi's dashboard, it looks like a Opel (also called as Vauxhall in some countries) - possibly a Vectra or a Signum.

Sweden is not dusty - that's why I guess people don't mind open car parking.

and um.. that Mongolian dessert doesn't look very appetizing

Oh!! Boy; it can get real messy during winters & its worst than cleaning dust in our country. I used to pour hot water on the wind shields, side window & mirrors to remove the snow . There's always a bit of laziness within me.

Amazing one star ! Well what do I say about the Land of Borg, Wilander and Edberg ! Your snaps make it look amazing.

The best memory I have of Tiramisu is having one on the road-sea size of the French Riviera ! The taste, place and the ambiance all were awesome.
You reminded me of those times !

Great one. Just read it post to post!

I eat only vegetarian barbeque. In fact i liked the food except for the spice. The deserts were more european than mangolian. I think, this particular resturant is a toned down version of the mangolian resturant you went to in US.

Yes, the deserts were simply great. the first one is a banana fry with icecream (ordered by my Indian origin colleague who stay in Malmo), the second one (for me) is a varient of tiramitsu+Icecream, the third one is an good old icecream.

it helped to put off the fire (in the mouth/stomach) after eating the spicy barbeque.

yes, my local colleague had all those tools to remove the snow in his car/boot. it seems he spend considerable time for it int he mornings. i also heard that people keep their car with engine running to get it warm enough in the morning before they actually drive.

Thanks ampere for your appreciation, In fact i was a die hard fan of Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg (apart from Boris Becker). i never missed a match (on TV- doordarshan), especially the ones edberg had with becker.

i do not manage enough time to watch tennis now, i do not even know the names of the top men / women players now. I think, i need to work harder towards finding time for these things
