I know, but the description fits Bappi Lahiri better!

This hotel is popular among Indian tourists - probably because its owned by Taj Hotels. A couple of friends/relatives of mine who have visited Maldives stayed at the same hotel.

Isn't there a direct flight to Maldives from Mumbai?
As far as I know there are no direct flights from Mumbai to Maldives.

You can take Air Lanka to Colombo and then go to Maldives from there but some of the stopover times are over 10 hours unless you time it just right.

Maldives is less than an hour from TVM. It turned out really convenient both while going and coming.

Next morning we all woke up went to school. I had to fill a form and a chinese auntie measured me and gave me a pipe, goggles and a pair of big yellow shoes. The shoes made me walk like my favorite cartoon character donald duck.

The nice auntie told me that the shoes were for water and not land. She also told me that I should take the pipe and practice breathing through my mouth. If I put my head under the water, I would be able to see nice nice fishies...

So like a whole family of donald ducks, we all waddled down the steps of our bungalow

and into the lagoon at the back where there were many coral reefs with fishies

Size: 80.9 KB

Like a good student I tried the pipe and glasses

Size: 92.4 KB

And swam with the donald duck shoes

I became like superman and was able to see under the water

Size: 106.9 KB

My little nephew who is very brave also came into the water with his papa and me

Size: 81.4 KB

And so did my bench partner

Soon we too were swimming like the fishies over the coral but we had to be careful because sometimes my leg got cut if I brushed against it

Size: 107.7 KB

Soon we felt brave and swam to the end of the lagoon near the sea

Name: far_far.jpg

Size: 85.3 KB

That area had some waves and sometimes the water went into my pipe and I had to do phoo phoo to blow it out and then clean my glasses because I am also double battery

Size: 120.2 KB

And there we saw even more colorful fishies swimming through the rocks and corals.

Name: colorfish.jpg
Views: 2864
Size: 89.5 KB

Name: colorfish2.jpg
Views: 2863
Size: 85.7 KB

We swam all morning and I was very tired, so we came back and had a shower

Name: IMG_7005.jpg
Views: 2870
Size: 124.4 KB

and listened to music as another nice uncle made us some cool cool drinks

Name: wind_swept.jpg
Views: 2868
Size: 89.1 KB

and we again dozed off to sleep...

I think the OP did KF on BOM-TRV and then TRV-MLE on Indian Airlines.

@phamilyman: i did MLE 3 years back and Indian Airlines had a scheme where if you took a return ticket ex-TRV for a couple, you got 2 nights, 3 days free at a resort. Back then it was Farrookh Island resort. They still have that scheme running BTW, though i am not sure it is still with Farookh Island Resort. IC has similar packages for many other places as well. Ask the counter aunty for "Flyaway packages".

Maldives is fantastic place and actually works out cheaper than Andamans and Lakshadweep (I spent 18K for Maldives and 28K for Lakshadweep!).

I know many have a not too good impression of our national airline. But they do a decent job overall and have some killer offers!

Usually I skip lines in the travelogue & then look for pics, your style of writing made me not to miss any lines or pics (voted 5); felt like a little boy talking to me; Good going & waiting for more soon, so don't disappoint & make this essay into mega serial

Awesome place and nice pics! Thanks for bringing that place virtually to us!

How did you take pics of the fishes? Did you have any underwater camera?

Simply great. Really liked it. After all we like simple things :-).

How about shading some light on Expense Meter?

Just kidding Genesis. A very nice, simple, to the point essay.

Keep going.

A 5 star travelogue. Loved reading through so far. Please keep it coming.

Also, please do mention the time of the year you visit Maldives along with the costing.

Cheers,

An excellent way to narrate the travelogue. I am hooked onto this thread.
Can you share details about final expenses if possible?
