Default DAY 14 Afternoon

Sorry guys for the delay.

==========================

At about 1 pm, i'm relived that the car is done and now we can be on our way. Everybody is getting ready, i ask mechanic saab to do one final check as we have to go to Hyd non-stop. We had to be in Hyd tomorrow, which seemed impossible.

I go up to pay the bill, and see GADBAD from the window down in the garage. On inquiry i learn that the clutch cylinder has leaked again. Great!

Sir, wo cylinder phir se leak karra hai
Kya? mai dekhta hun.

he goes to check himself.

Kya hua bhai,
saab, abhi to theek thi gaadi, clutch phir gir gaya...

NOw what?

Hamare paas wo ek hi tha!
kya? aur ek nahi hai?
nahi, chandigarh se mangwana padega.
KYAA?!!
kitni duur hai chandigarh?
50 KM.
hum to already late hai sir ji...
mai kuch nahi kar sakta.

And then the looong agonising wait. The heat was terrible too! One of the guys told me that

aap apna intezaam raat ka yahin karlo, gaadi toh kal subah hi milegi.

Oh no!, this cannot happen to us. At about 5:15pm, the guy from chandigarh arrives, he has brought the spare!!! YIPEE!

i go upstairs to pray! We must leave this place today.

The manager, mr. swami, has apparently called another expert mechanic who was his ex-employee. So this was the problem, they didnt fit it properly.

So, at around 7pm, we are finally good to go. The expert has done his job well. 2 Trial runs of the car, 1 bill payment and we're on the highway again.

To Delhi then...

This has already become our worst nightmare! We're tired, exhausted and we reach delhi by midnight. We drove the car with utmost care, those 200 KMs were the most scary, as we were worried about any other problems that might develop. But thankfully, nothing happened. Azer miyan, had made arrangements to stay at a friend's place... NADEEM bhai.

Past midnight, we arrive at his house, the hospitality was very warm, they made arrangements for us to sleep, prepared fresh food at 1 AM!!! Great!

So we sleep after a nightmarish day... Day 14 tomorrow... little did we know what's in store for us in the following days. thinking that the worst was over, we calmly slept, but fate had other plans..

May be to teach us a lesson.... you never know for sure...

True

Also shouldn't the car be under normal / extended warranty?

default warranty is for 2 years i guess
when was Mhawk launched?
it was 2008 i guess,so it should be
but with a driver like his,i doubt if its eligible for warranty claims

Default Day 14

I'm sorry for the delay and mistake in the last heading... i must have messed up the dates somewhere, but i'm sure this is day 14, the 14th of May; because we offered Friday prayers at Old Delhi!

Ok, original plan was to get up 8 and rush to Hyd. I was optimistic and almost sure of doing the 1600 odd KMs by saturday evening. Both the other couples told me that they'll stay in delhi for a couple of days for business and come by flight. No problem for me as we both were the drivers throughout the trip. (mazhar n me.)

Its 10 AM now and sharing one bathroom, we're already late. I pack my bag and take it downstairs, we were put up on the 3rd floor.

(nadeem bhai) ARE! kya bhai, ye hotel nahi hai, jo raat ko aaye aur subah chal diye! ye toh aapka ghar hai, 2-3 din toh rukna hi padega!
(me) GULP! (we're already 2 days behind schedule)
nahi bhai, aisa nahi hai, wo gaadi kharab hone ki wajeh se hum late ho gaye hai, aaj hyd pahunchna tha..
ab late ho gaye ho toh thoda aur late ho jao...
AAYEN?!, nahi bhai, ab niklenge toh sunday tak pahunchenge, monday bahut kaam hai,
koi baat nahi, monday chutti le lena!
are bhai...

No amount of arguing was going to be enough here! It's after all DILWALON KI DILLI!

He was not going to let us go today i was sure of this.

bhai, thodi toh khidmat karne do yaar.. nashta banraha hai aao..
are bhai, aapne pehle hi hamare liye kaafi takleef uthai hai...
apna hi ghar hai , aao baitho...

We then met his Ammi, Abba, and lots of kids! Apparently he had 2 and his brother had 2... i lost count.

Anyways, we had bread, omlette, poori sabzi, boiled eggs, butter.. etc etc.. 5 star hotel mein bhi itni variety nahi rehti.

Now, by the time we've finished our breakfast its almost noon.

Nadeem bhai, ab hum ijazat chahte hai, bahut shukriya aapka!
hehehe.... (laughing loudly) abhi kaha? kal subah nahari paaye khayenge... kal shaam mein... (i interrupt)
bhai, aap samjhiye, humein kaisa bhi sunday shaam tak ghar pe rehna hai..
achha chalo Juma (friday prayers) toh saath padhenge!
Acha theek hai, par uske baad hum jayenge!
Wo toh dekhenge! (with a mysterious smile on his face.)

I somehow liked this man, such a big heart.. but we were getting late and thats what was making me nervous! We also had to drop by at our maasi's place in panchsheel park.

After prayers.. and an elaborate lunch, we're finally allowed to go at 6 PM!!! Can you believe it? We could have been in MP by now!

I bid goodbye to nadeem bhai, and only 1 couple is accompanying us.. one stays back.

So 5 of us start our journey back. We stop at GK1 market (big mistake) for shopping, and then maasi's house for an hour (another mistake!)

We're really tired now, and its 10 PM when we start from her house for the highway. Finding the highway wasnt difficult and soon we're speeding toward Agra!

I try to sleep as Mazhar would be tired soon, and i would have to drive. At about 1 am we're in Agra and all is well.

There's a looooong lorry jam at the exit to gwalior highway and precious time is lost there.

Mazhar is tired and hands over the wheel to me.. i also havnt slept much and tell him that i would only drive till Gwalior (120 km). He says OK! and goes to sleep... All 3 in the back are also sleeping.. (Big mistake # 3)

Soon we're out of the jam and a nice smooth highway is taking us to Gwalior.

Almost one hour is lost in the jam and its almost 2-2.30 when we start for Gwalior. At about 4 AM, some 50 KM from Gwalior.. i am feeling very sleepy, i look at mazhar, he has his legs on the seat and is in dreamland, i glance behind and no one's awake. I'm telling myself that i must stop somewhere to get a small power nap. I cross a small bridge almost touching the railings because of a "neend ki jhapki"..

next minute a smooth highway starts, and i tell myself that lets go a little further and find a little dhaba to stop.

Another precious minute goes by and i'm sleeping at the wheel.. and i'm suddenly woken up by terrifying sounds...

dhadam dhudum... screech.... thud...

to be contd...

Read the entire travelogue in one go....what a way to travel almost the entire length of the country. One of the best I have read in Tbhp for some time now.

Waiting to see why you had to stop not for the first time with an "incident of mention".
