Default Swifted : Weekend Getaway from Bangalore - Kolli Hills

After Nelliyampathy drive and the hometrip, comes another weekend. The Power Puff Girls wants to go somewhere, somewhere they can play with water and chill a bit.

Quickly remembered about Kolli Hills and plan was made on a Friday. A day drive to Kolli Hills and back. This time a few of my friends decided to join us in their new Indica Vista.

So we left Bangalore by 05:00 AM on 15.05.2010 Saturday to Kolli Hills, which is 300Km away.

Some teasers.

Thank you Star for the compliments.

I am nowhere near any professional touch, these were some of the best I could do. Learning, Learning and Learning everyday. But the end seems to be too far :(

Like we go out occasionally on vacations and drives, Laluks comes back to Bangalore occasionally to go to office.
There are so many jealous members here and don't be surprised if you end up with choo chaa stuff.

Kolli Hills

Bangalore - Hosur - Salem - Rasipuram - Kolli Hills (305Kms)

We started around 05:00AM from home. My friends joined me in their new Indica Vista after the Bangalore exit tollgate by 05:45AM.

After an uneventful NH7 drive we stopped at Salem for breakfast.

After breakfast again continued on NH7 till Rasipuram, and took the deviations to reach Kolli Hills.

We reached the checkpost of Kolli Hills by 10:00AM.

We took almost two hours to reach the top from the Checkpost, stopping everywhere to look around, click and chit chat.

Once we reached the top, we parked near a temple. From here you have to climb down 1025+ steps to reach the waterfall.

Hi Lalu, great snaps. thanks for sharing

IMO, 39th HP sign could mean

if one human child is given birth 10 trees need to be grown becasue without these 10 trees the human child may not be able breath clean fresh oxygen.

Kolli Hills

Kolli Hills is a big mountain range and is an outlier of the Eastern Ghats. This link will give you a lot of ideas about this place. Kolli Hills - Trek Wiki

We reached the parking lot near the Arappaleeshwarar temple by 12:00PM. We started to climb down the 1025+ stairs to the waterfall. The water fall is named Akasa Gangai and is an enchanting 300 feet waterfall of river Aiyaru.

A park near the entrance where the steps start. Has a fountain too.

It was very difficult to climb the steep steps down. At times my muscles were shivering and paining as well. The steps were built as is what is and not any even spaced or at the same height. At some places it was near vertical.

My Power Puff Girls were very sportive, though it was difficult for them as well, they encouraged me to climb slowly seeing my predicament. Guess all work and no exercise makes me a dull boy!! Must actively lookout to do some exercise.

Finally after a gruelling 45 minutes of climb, we reached the parking lot by 15:15PM. Personally I felt climbing back was less difficult that climbing down.

We had packed lunch, and we decided to have it, while my friends munched away in a nearby decent eatery.

By 16:00PM, we decided it quits and started our journey back.

nice photographs of the waterfalls, which river is this ?

for a change you are trying to be the lord shiva, trying to capture the Ganga on his head/hair.

nice family photo, the B/W effect gives nostalgic feeling.

Thanks Star.

The river is Aiyaru.

Hey, that's a nice observation. That should be the creativity of my friend who clicked that snap.

Always Sepia(the color) gives a nostalgic feel.

By the time we reached the foot of the Hill it was 17:30PM.

We drove on the NH7 uneventfully and reached Salem by 18:30PM. Took a break for tea and by 19:00PM we continued our drive back to Bangalore. My friends decided to stop over at Salem to attend a wedding on Sunday.

Very much uneventful drive till Krishnagiri. After Krishnagiri, it started to rain very heavily, and we finally reached home by 23:00PM.

A very nice weekend, very well spent. Looking ahead for the next trip now, don't know when and where .

Total KMs : 610
Total fuel : 41 litres.
FE : 14.88KmpL.

The End.

There was a reason to suddenly go for this drive, with this drive I've completed 2.5 Lakh Kilometers on Indian roads
