Wonderful Travelogue. Wow., seriously inspiring, the Biker from Kanyakumari to Khardungla. Doing a solo ride so far takes quite some daring.

Hopefully will do Leh soon.

ramkya1,
Enjoyed every bit of what you have presented here. Honest account - devoid of superlatives. Congratulations. The trio has clicked so well.
Let me also add here that I am one of those who immensely benefited from the route maps of Ladakh and other regions that you have so very meticulously developed. THANKS.

Ramkay Sir, Amazing capability to narrate the journey so vividly,

Prajesh, your pics are just amazing, the route came alive with your experiences.

Guruji, is a genius with technology, I've had the pleasure of knowing him, though little through 8 odd years. Gem of a person!

A great travelogue! Ramky enjoyed every bit of it and followed it continuously. The pics are superb. The information detailed and useful.

I wish to visit the place soon in my own SUV.

He got the bike from Cochin -> Ambala by train and started riding. Anyways riding on that land is a great challenge anyday.

Ramkya and co, be ready for abuses from my wife. She thought my mania has subsided after my south long trip. I'm working on a trip to kashi and have already now started planning for Leh in 2011!

Same here. I am seriously planning for a Leh trip come 2011.

Ramkya/Others who have been to Leh: Can a Dzire Diesel go there? Also is it advisable to go there with family i.e wife and kids ( 6 & 3 yrs old)?

Yes to both questions; ideal after July, August / Sep is the best time, roads improve, but snow-lines would be out of touch.

There are no guarantees on this land. I saw a 70/80 year old lady at K top, her husband was gasping for breath, a 10 year old playing in the snow without problems and a young couple, wife vomiting continuously. It would be best to acclamatize and travel slowly, meaning sleep in gradual increments of height to reduce chances of AMS.

A Dzire can go,but conditions vary on an everyday basis.I'm in Srinagar now after doing the manali-leh-srinagar route in my Getz.A sump guard covering the entire portion between the lower arms will vastly boost confidence levels. Many cars including a verna & Ritz had to return due to sump damage, but this was only because Rohtang was at it's worst. Some other day,the conditions may be different & it may be a cake walk.
Also,I saw all swifts with damaged bumpers.IMO,swift/dzire have reasonble GC but bumpers are lower than Getz.

Thats Great News!! . Maybe I can dream after all to get my Getz over there.

So, did you drive all the way from Sakleshpur to there? Your location says Sakleshpur, so curious. :-)

Guess @Chandan is rite, terrain around some of the treacherous stretches differ from day-day.

I guess come September you have @Souvik starting from B'lore with few cars in tow; he will be in his Swift and has completed the route earlier.

If all goes well (went through knee and hip surgery earlier, have to go under the knife in August) then I am in too in September in my Zen.
