Ok. so Supe is in the plan to be done in first weekend of Oct. You didn't try getting off your vehicle and walking towards these chinkaras is it? Absolutely dramatic pics.
Is it on the route from Moregaon to Supe?

I did and most of the times these shy creatures run deep in. Wife was a bit apprehensive to go any deeper, though it seemed absolutely safe! Did not want to push her any forth!

I am very happy to see the pics of chinkara in world's smallest wildlife sanctuary i.e. mayureshwar wildlife sanctuary in 12mati taluka. Its just 5 sq km area and you will find mostly chinkara , jackal and fox.

Thanks for this travelogue with the route information and nice pictures. I did not know there was a wildlife sanctuary so close by. Added this route to be done over one of the coming weekends.

Do chinkaras mark their territory?

This was the actual distance between us and the beautiful animals! They run away at slightest disturbance!

Actually we could not spot these beautiful creatures by ourselves, we had to ask the villagers and they just pointed the fingers deep only then did we spot them! So we decided to take a u-turn on the straight road and went ahead and took another route in to the forest!

And this is what we found. She was staring at us when we stopped, but by the time I could take my position she started running away!!

The lake view in the forest was just awesome, there were a few birds but my camera was not strong enough to capture them from where we were and as I said I could not venture any further as we absolutely had no information about the place!

@anilisanil - a little thread hijack here.

I got hold of a copy of 'Maharashtra Desha' - pics by U. Thakeray. All the pics are aerial shots of various places in Maharashtra. Would strongly recommend getting a copy (Disclaimer: no commercial interest here) for looking up places to drive to...

back to you @anilisanil...

@anilisanil

Do you get to drive in the sanctuary or you just passed near by the forest area?

No we cannot drive into the sanctuary. But you can drive around on the roads that connect to near by villages which pass through the sanctuary. It was good enough for me . But yeah may be getting into the sanctuary would be a better idea (?) I did not have much time in hand so thought of just taking a chance

There is a smaller one near to that. Rehkuri is just 22 HECTARES!

I passed through rashin and karjat n times but never visited rehkuri.
The forest area near 12mati and indapur is highly populated by species of deer.
I remember, ten years back, during night, wild rabbit used to visit my factory premises in search of water in summer.

More than a year since the last post, but i hope the place is still around on the tourist circuit. Where is this sanctuary - on the road between Morgaon and Supe? Also, is now (Dec/Jan) a good season to go over? thanks

Pune and it's surrounding places are very very beautiful, specially after the rains. I just fall in love with that area of Maharastra after this year's trip and I'm really looking forward to go there again in the coming year and this time with more time in hand. Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos.
