Star, thanks for the compliments, but I have not learnt anything yet.

When Rudra da is around, I am just a boy fiddling with my toy :(

All what I have gathered we can discuss enroute kaas.

Have some issues with my PC. So tonight I fear I cannot upload any pictures. Sorry.

I managed to hijack wifey's laptop

My old Dell (6+ years, P4 HT) seems to have some issues, which I'll have to sort out in the weekend.

I'll put up the rest of the days log by tonight.

I have the entire collection of tintin and asterix on my hdd as well. I also have asterix cartoon vcds. But nothing like holding the books and reading them.
I have the complete collection of tintin books (in Udupi). Planning to buy the complete asterix collection when my daughter turns 5 or 6.

Now who needs the comics in pdf format?

Great. The entire set is a bit expensive and thats why I have a soft copy. For those interested in comics, I have entire Calvin and Hobbes collection also.

But, nothing beats the paper comics.

Guess we should start a new thread for the comics. Or put it in the give away thread for members to reach out.
Khoj. Natraj Hotel is further out of Pune. I was thinking of a place closer to pune from where we can drive out as a convoy.
I'll put details in the other thread.

Let's stop the OT here.

Day 02, 21.08.2010
Parambikulam WLS

A few words about the accomodation and activities at Tented Niche before moving on.

Tented Niche costs Rs 4000 for a night for 2 Adults. Kids below 12 costs Rs 500 extra and above Rs 1000 extra. This is the best accomodation type in Parambikulam WLS, if you want a packaged Parambikulam stay. The best choice with kids. All meals included, check in 13:00, checkout next day 12:00.

Activities like Kannimara teak safari, Bamboo rafting / boat ride, Dusk Safari ride, Wild life movioes, Bird watching, a small trek are a part of this package. Very neatly and timely done.

You can drive all the way to Anappady where the tents are, park your car. Then all activities are taken care by them.

I am happy with this programme, and would recommend this.

But, I also wanted to drive through till Parambuikulam, leisurely to stop by for the animal sightings, look around at your pace. So I wanted to stay back one more night. Tented accomodation is a package and it is an overkill for me the second day, though you can just use it like a place to stay. But since it is 20Km away from Parambikulam, going and coming back in a day shortens my usable day time due to the restriction of vehicle movement after 18:00.

So a decision was made to stay somewhere near Parambikulam, accessible by road.

Four options came in

1) Parambikulam Tree Top (only 2 beds, additional is difficult)
2) Bison Valley Home
3) Elephant Valley Home
4) Sambar Machan

The first three are just overlooking the main road to Parambikulam. Did not impress me much.

Sambar Machan is still 9 KM from Parambikulam towards Kuriarkutty. The access to that area is only allowed if you have a stay in Kuriarkutty like Sambar Machan or Salim Ali Study Centre (Dormitory). Sambar Machan costs you Rs 3000, and you get place (not beds!!) for 5 people to sleep.

That route is an amazing route and so decided to stay in Sambar Machan. It is particularly interesting because there is no food and electricity at this place. The flip side is check in is by 15:00 and check out is by 07:00 next day, but you can discuss with the guides and plan your programme. Well I reached the place only by 18:00m, and left by 08:00. Since you'll only use it for sleeping! So not an issue.

For food you have to buy provisions (yes from salt to vegetables to rice) from Parambikulam and go. You also have to consider the food for the guide. At Kuriarkutty village there is a small tea shop who will cook all this for you, and the guide will get this to you Machan, which is approximately one Km from here.

In principle Sambar Machan is just a tree top setup. Absolutely nothing else - Interesting isn't it? That too in the middle of the jungle with!!

Well, that was an experience.

Now let's see how the events turned up from 14:00 on Day 02 of our trip.

continued...
