Dr. Ghosh and GD Sahab ,
It was anticipated by you two about the stalking Collar Wali two evenings back and that she may treat you two to a kill with her cubs, but it turned out to be Badi Maa instead. Congrats!!

Looking forward to the visual treat.
Regards,

While the previous set of photographs are from GD sir's 5th drive with me, these 2 videos are from the very first drive together when we encountered Collarwali after a mid summer downpour.

There were about 10 vehicles around us, but Bablu made sure that were in the best position to photograph and take videos of her.

Enjoy these 2 videos:

More videos of other encounters coming up soon.

Dr. Ghosh,
Great captures as usual, video's from you and stills from GD.

The first pic. (title above), needs clarification.
The antler seems long gone (killed), and is looks like it is being carted by Badi maa.

The palm civet has come out very well, especially the silhouetted airborne shot. The baby Langur mid air shot has so much life in it.

The banded kukri looks like a tigers tail with eyes.
Looking forward to more.
Regards,

Super monday continues on to super Wednesday :

I had a date with Collar Wali Tigress with cubs again today morning on an impromptu visit to Pench.
With this encounter, my friend (with whom I went) can now safely conclude that there are indeed Tigers in Pench and the forest department staff don't go out in the mornings to put fake pugmarks on the trails.......

I got the family in water finally today !!

Here's a teaser shot of today's encounter :

And here's a video of my encounter with Badimaa with GD sir on last monday morning as she dragged away the spotted deer kill . This looks so lively on video, I think I have to contemplate buying a professional video equipment soon :

The deer was killed not long before we reached the spot as confiormed by the forest department watchers.

GD sir is testimony to my cry of triumph as I shot the airborne civet.

The baby langur shot by far was the best pic for me that morning.

No testimonies required Dr. Ghosh, I thought you were doing the video and GD doing the stills, thats what I understood after our telecon after your civet encounter hence, the assumption. My apologies.

Dear friends,
I am a new entrant into this forum and this thread has excellent visuals and story-telling on Pench.

Pench was also the last leg of our journey (Kanha-Bandhavgarh-Pench) and we were with Dr. Abheek to explore this tiger reserve. Thanks Abheek for the wonderful drives.

Detailed travelogue will follow in a week's time.

Collarwali indeed has 5 cubs but in this encounter we saw only these 2 female cubs with her. the remaining 3 were resting. By the way its about time to plan your next trip here soon.

Thanks Rishi. After so many months of planning, it was indeed great meeting you and your gang at Pench. Lets work on your travelogue soon and lets present the lesser explored aspect of this reserve. I will also contribute to this from my collection. It will be indeed great. Waiting for you to start soon.

The pleasure of the entire interaction was all mine. Thank you.

Presenting today's image from Pench : From my encounter with collarwali and her 2 cubs from last monday :

Cub with Tigress in Green summer Habitat
Pench Tiger Reserve - New season starts with a Bang !!!-habitat-cub.jpg

This image of a female cub with her mother Collarwali - the Tigress in Pench with 5 cubs shot last monday during the morning round. What began as a chance sighting of the family resting under Lantana bushes after devouring a Sambhar deer kill, proceeded to become one of my most memorable sightings of this family. The Tigress moved out of the Lantana bushes followed by her 2 female cubs and went on to walk about 100 meters to the waterfront to drink and cool off with her cubs. In process of getting individual shots of the Tigress and her babies, I could not resist bringing out the wideangle to shoot the beautiful landscape which presented to me around the Tigers. Here is a composite shot of the Tigress with 1 cub in habitat for you all. I will post the follow up shots of this memorable encounter soon. With plenty of water and a great herbivore population to boot, Pench I believe is a success story in Tiger conservation.

regards,
Dr. A Ghosh

Default a leopard sighting for me finally

After returning back to nagpur yesterday afternoon as I spent an unusual sunday in my house sorting out my pics and reviewing my staggered 4 drives in the last 4 days (thursday evening, friday morning with Rishi and gang ; saturday evening and sunday morning with Srinath and gang) , I could discern that there was something just not right this weekend. Although we (with rishi) had a super sighting of collarwali tigress with 5 cubs relaxing from elephant back on friday morning apart from spending a great time with friends, I was missing something - something that I could not put my finger on.

That was exactly why I jumped when Saket called yesterday evening and asked me if I wanted to accompany him to Pench again this morning - and grabbed the invitation with both hands.

What followed was just what was required to complete the weekend experience - we heard a tiger roaring into the night at 3am while camping at Lallan's and then within 15 minutes of entering for the morning round, encountered a leopard which stayed with me (in bushes) for more than 30 minutes.

Record shots and an excellent video will be up soon.

My FB status today reads :
Start of a new week after a refreshing weekend in Pench.
Trip highlights: Great time with friends - Rishi, Sagarika, Nirupa, Rajni, Kapil, Srinath, Veena, Thotak, Saraswati and Shrivatsan. Tiger Cubs, Tiger roar in the night and finally a rare Leopard sighting in the last drive today morning !

Bangalore and Mumbai gang - you guys rock !

Regards,
Dr. A Ghosh

As you can see, my experimentations with videos continue and I think I will have to get myself a good video camera soon. Any suggestions ?
