I came across this article.

A large male tiger was found hacked to pieces beside a forest road at Borda, 12 km from Chandrapur on Friday, May 18. It was the fifth tiger death this year in the Chandrapur forests, which is a part of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve landscape in Maharashtra says a statement issued by Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) issued today.
Someone has put up an image of this on Abheeks facebook page too.

I am planning a trip to Pench and would like to know more about the costs involved.

Here is what I have gathered so far:
Kipling's Court - AC room (2 nights): Rs. 11500 (for a couple)
(I am assuming breakfast, lunch and dinner is included in this price)

Safari: 2 safari's per day possible, each costing Rs. 3000. Is this on sharing basis? or for full jeep? We are not interested in photography.

Nagpur - Pench: 2 hours drive: Taxi cost unknown.
Checkin-Checkout time is unknown

Elephant ride: Rs. 5000 for 30 minutes. Is this available on sharing basis?

Airfare: Rs. 17000-20000 (2 adults, 1 child) - for record only.

Are there any other costs?

When are you planning this? You will be better advised to wait till the Supreme Court disposes/decides either way on tiger tourism in core areas. As far as I know safaris would be banned in Pench too due to the pending case in SC. As per the URL below they have extended the ban and the next hearing is on October 9th.

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/go...m-ban/1011539/

You can follow more details of this civil case here at the SC website http://courtnic.nic.in/supremecourt/...no_new_alt.asp.

Case no: 21339
Case Year: 2011

Once the matter is cleared you can start making your plans and do any bookings. Booking now and then seeking a refund if the ban stays can be a big hassle.

Was planning for October - Dussera week. But considering the costs, I have postponed this. Now, I am planning for Gir where the costs should be much lesser since my in-laws are close by.

I thought only Karnataka has implemented this.
Are you sure MP or other states have also implemented the ban?

Oddly, I don't see any other post talking about "no safari" or "had to claim refund" on Team-BHP.

What about Gir? There are no tigers there, so I hopefully Gir does not fall in the scope.

That is because all these parks remain closed for monsoons till October. The case has now moved to the SC since August this year when the parks were anyway closed and the SC put this ban. It applies to all tiger reserves and not just Karnataka. It affects MP and Rajasthan most as both these states earn a lot of money through tiger tourism. So much so that I think they are making special representations now to overturn the ban. This is not much talked about on TBHP because TBHP is more of an automotive site plus the reserves were anyway closed till now. Forums outside TBHP are hotly debating this topic for or against .

Yeah Gir is not a tiger reserve but a lion reserve so you can plan something there.

I am glad that I did not book anything at Pench or Bandhavgarh. There were some good deals for as low as Rs. 3200 per night.
I wonder who is buying the rooms if there is no safari.

Myself along with wife are booked for the evening safari on 18 Nov evening and 19 Nov morning at Touria gate of Pench NP. We shall be reaching Pench on 18th from Kanha (16/17) and Bandhawgarh (14/15) and staying at Kipling court.

It was the fascinating reports on Pench by Dr. Ghosh that made us add it to the itinerary.

I would be interested to know about visits if any made by BHPians or planned around this time in this season including road conditions and wildlife news.

I had done Pench around two years back. Though wildlife sightings (especially tiger) are uncertain but tiger sightings at Pench is little tricky. The reason behind is that the routes are not like other parks i.e., Kanha and Bandhavgarh. However, you can have good sightings of jackels and other Mammals.

Nice to know that you will be at Bandhavgarh during Nov 14 and 15. I am there since Nov 8-17 for 15 rounds. Which zone you have booked at Bandhavgarh and who is arranged the safari for you?

I had done the hotel booking at Baghela Resorts. As online booking had not started then, I entrusted them with the Safari bookings also. But the online booking started earlier from 15th Oct and by the time they could arrange, Talia was sold out and on15th I had to settle for bookings of Khitauli gate on 14 Nov morning and Magdhi gate on 15th morning. 14th evening I am there without a booking. Now my sister and bro-in law are also joining me and have made same bookings.
