Wow. 11 years since I'd been to those parts. Everything has changed. Well. Almost.
Barring the Chakda, which still retains it's 'Aesthetic' looks.

As in every Indian family, our parents may not visited the different parts of country due to various reasons as they may be too occupied to earn money to grow their children.
As we children grow and start to earn, its our duty to show them what they missed during their days.
As elder son in my family, it is my duty to show the imp temples of India to my parents.
As my mother and father are at the age of 60+ and 65+, i decided to accompany them whenever they wish to travel.
During last five years, we have completed three out of four dhaam...
.. i.e. Badri-kedar-yamunotri-gangotri in north India, Puri-Gangasagar in east India, Rameshwaram in south India,
the remaining dhaam in west India i.e. Dwarka was on my radar.
Planning started four months back.
I started a thread about somnath-dwarka in route and queries section.
I thanks to those who contributed to that thread.
I read the travel story of MX6 about Omkareshwar and Ujjain,
realized that i should visit those jyotirlingas with my parents and planned accordingly.
Thanks MX6 for that travelogue which inspired me to visit those jyotirlingas in MP.

After visiting those four jyotirlingas and Dwarka,
i can say that we have covered all four dhaams which are located to N-E-W-S of India and 10 out of 12 jyotirlingas.
Remaining two jyotirlingas i.e. Varanasi in UP and Shrishailam in AP are on my radar now.

Back to travel story..

DAY 0

We started from Pune by train named pune-patna express at @ 9pm,
reached to Khandwa in MP at @ 7:30 am next morning.
Four Shiva and one Krishna: A pilgrimage-image00005.jpg

DAY 1

Earlier, i thought that Khandwa is big nice place,
nothing to write about it except that it was native place of the famous trio of Indian cinema...
...i.e. Ashokkumar, Kishorkumar and Anupkumar[ please correct me].
Four Shiva and one Krishna: A pilgrimage-image00004.jpg

Took a taxi to omkareshwar which is 70 km away toward Indore.
Roads are all the way great two lane.
Four Shiva and one Krishna: A pilgrimage-image00006.jpg

After reaching near Omkareshwar, called MX6 about exact route to the Narmada resort in Omkareshwar.
Reached to o'shwar at @ 10 am and found the resort easily.

View from resort room.

Nothing brings more happiness than taking one's parents to temples and dhams Bhau.
So I'm following this thread keenly!

I'm also waiting for your Gujarat Leg. Did you get to meet Ramkya in AHD?

And Dadamoni was born in Bhagalpur in Bengal. Only his brothers Kishore and Anoop were born in Khandwa.

I traveled by road in Gujrat for only 500km.
dwarka-okha road is in mixed condition.
dwarka to khambaliya is excellent road,
khambaliya to jamnagar is broad road with occasional patches and heavy traffic.

The Narmada resort is owned and operated by MP tourism corporation.
One thing is sure about any resort operated by govt owned agency is that it has always a very good location.
the resort is situated at a hillock near temple having excellent view of the temple and surrounding.
The room rates are reasonable, the resort has facility of a good restaurant.

views from the resort

After freshening and having lunch, we started to explore the place.
one has to cross by walking either of two bridges crossing the narmada river.
As the resort is at hillock, we have go downward toward the bridge leftside in the pic.
Four Shiva and one Krishna: A pilgrimage-image00009.jpg
within first ten min, my father had terrible time with his knee pain.
somehow, we managed to come at the start point of the bridge.
After having tea at nearby hotel, i managed to buy a walking stick for my father.
we crossed the bridge.

views from the bridge.

entered the market on the way to temple.[ sorry for poor qlty of the pic]
Four Shiva and one Krishna: A pilgrimage-image00043.jpg

Again, one has to climb lot of steps to enter the main temple.
Got hold of one pandya[ pujari],
he offered us excellent service,
took vip pass to take darshan,
performed small puja and left the temple.

One has to take darshan of Mamaleshwar temple which is located on other side[ town side] to complete the Omkareshwar darshan.
opted to cross the river by small boats/ferry.

Omkareshwar temple from other side of the river.

Again, one has to climb the steps through market to reach the Mamleshwar temple.
My parents had terrible time with that climbing,
somehow managed to reach that temple.
had darshan and left the place.
Four Shiva and one Krishna: A pilgrimage-image00060.jpg

Again, walking and climbing,
as the area had no access to any vehicle, walking was the only option.
By the time, it was dark when we reached the resort back.

Next post 4pm today.

AP saab. I remember telling you that you can drive to Mamleshwar and there's a car park right besides Mamaleshwar temple. Further you can drive to the hanging bridge. And if one crosses the hanging bridge, there's no steps to climb.

You forgot?

I also told you that you can drive to the Narmada Dam and above it (not over it) to get an amazing view all around!

The Area has access to vehicles. Vehicles can go till the entry of Hanging bridge and one doesn't need to climb up or down the stairs. Just cross the hanging bridge to enter the back side of the temple.

About the hanging bridge.

I forgot, completely forgot.

We crossed the bridge which leads to the road in front of the temple,
if we opted for hanging bridge, we may not faced the problem of climbing.
But i was travelling without my car and taxi from khandwa had returned back.

you will come to know about the state of taxi and auto service in omkareshwar in my next post.
