South Carolina and Georgia. Towards south Carolina the GPS routed me through a ghost town for atleast 75 miles. It was a hustling bustling road earlier but they constructed a Freeway around it so people lost businessess and moved out left their houses. It was an errie feeling but I had company and the GPS routing saved me 50 miles. There was no sight of any cars for upto 10 - 11 minutes straight. Probably due to thanksgiving. This post contains southern South Carolina and Northern Georgia.

US university visits are really mind-boggling and they tend to open out our minds in many ways! I loved going over to many universities in US when I tour places around.

Boston takes the cake. The whole city in itself is a big university!

Waiting to see how Miami looks now. I found miami beaches not so great. But still it didn't deter me from going there 16 times over 16 weekends

uh oh. You should have driven further south 14K.

I've been to the keys on 3 occasions. Once I was crazy enough to drive a ford pickup truck all the way from Orlando to Key west.
A far cry and change from the earlier trip of driving a sebring touring convertible to key west!

I loved driving over the 7 mile bridge the first time.

First time around there was a pleasure in driving all the way to Key west, take a sun set cruise from there on a sail boat etc. Later it was only a geographical pit stop to been there, done that list. Oh yeah. Key west is the southern most point of US.

And one shouldn't miss out on the scuba diving or even the snorkelling.
Also one can try out sky diving from the airstrip at Key Marathon to get amazing views of the keys from top. I sadly missed the sky diving which was cancelled due to poor weather last moment.

Most of my Miami trips were spent in Biscayne Bay Blvd, where once we also did an impersonation of Seinfeld with decent cheers from a good audience who gathered around to see our act!

Continuing from Georgia we finally left for Florida and Miami was supposed to be 8 hours from there. Pictures of Florida.
But first - > I tried to drive like the Americans do and I found it uncomfortable to the least. Has anyone tried this type of hand position on the steering ?

tried but don't do that..uncomfortable.I somehow end up with the 4:40 position rather than the universally known 10:10 position.
have you tried the 'gangsta lean'?

Actually the correct position for driving a car with airbags is

Safe Driving Position - Smart Motorist
Quote:
Hold the outside rim of the steering wheel at "9 and 3 o'clock" or slightly lower. This position will minimize the risk of injury to your arms, hands and fingers in case your airbag deploys. Your arms should be bent slightly.

Airbag Basics
Quote:
For cars that have airbags, where should your hands grip the steering wheel?
The AAA has suggested modifying the steering wheel gripping position in airbag equipped cars from ten and two o'clock to nine and three or even eight and four o'clock to allow room for the airbag to deploy.
I personally prefer the 9 and 3 o'clock position. Occasionally I would let go of the 9 o'clock and simply hold the 3 o'clock.

But then again
http://www.smartmotorist.com/driving...ing-wheel.html
Quote:
For the CHP, 10-2, 9-2 or 8-4 are all approved positions. The reason: "All vehicle steering wheels and air bags are not created equal," said Pete Barra, public information officer for the CHP's Bay Area division. "Not to mention the comfort level of the driver's hand position."

Lol, I apparently slid into gangsta lean since the seat was pushed back and had my wrist slapped on the wheel and the other elbow on the arm rest behind the gear stick.

Thats some neat info @bblost! I never knew there could be seating positions so neatly defined. Back in India I love the way the auto guys sit, sticking their behinds at the corner and arms stretched. Its an amazing position to sit at and crack up.

Ok so following on: This is south Georgia and entering Florida. Spotted some beauties. Sorry for the cam pics as I did not take them. The co-passenger did. Also crossed Daytona beach and there was some event going on there and we spotted some real retro beauties/hot rods there.
