Please keep updating this wonderful thread regularly.
the speed is generally dependant on the type of ship and size usually
a) bulk carriers (the ones in my pictures) tankers usually do about 13 to 15 knots (one knot is abt 1.8 km per hour) which equals about 25 km/hr
(daily or 24 hour consumption of fuel is about 30 metric tons )

b) containers, the new gen ones are capable of about 30 knots and more
which even by road standards is quite decent

c) warships are generally more streamlined (merchant ships shapes are dictated by the type of trade it will be employed for at the buliding stage for eg a oil tanker is completly different from a container ship etc)
so they are faster depending on the type again, also fuel economy is hardly a priority in thier case
(eg a destroyer would have much more speed compared to say a replenishment tanker of the navy etc)
