Thanks. I thought of devoting my last post for describing the pros and cons of the Cruze as experienced during this trip. And, the next destination was back to Meerut before heading back to Hyderabad.

Here is a video of us frolicking in the snow

Wow! I never thought I'd ever see so much snow in Nainital. Icing on the cake are the great views of those mighty mountains. Nanda Devi, Trishul & Chaukhumba are so prominent. Splendid!

Man! Pictures of snow-clad mountains, especially the Himalayas, leave me at a loss for words.

What captivating beauty!

I must show these splendid sights to my BQ. When will that day come?

After enjoying the snow we got dropped off at the mall road in Nainital and we spent quite a bit of time window shopping and just enjoying the light warmth of the sun.

There was this little fella who was followed us for a long time trying to convince us to take a ride in his boat in the lake. We wanted to do that but a little later. But, this young fellow was so insistent that we decided to take this ride well before our time.

We bought a ticket of Rs.160 ( 4 people are allowed) and he promised to take us for a full one hour instead of the usual 30-40mins ride given by others. Rs.80 goes to him and rest goes to the boat owner.

That one hour was the most serene time of my entire vacation. There was no sound, just splashing of oars in water and silence everywhere. This is the most beautiful and clean lake ever seen. And, best part is the mall road runs parallel to this lake making Nainital one of the prettiest hillstations in our country

That boat ride was simply beautiful and un-describable feeling

Also, this boat balancing is tricky, you cannot turn your head to catch a view as the boat gets dangerously tilted. You have to wait for the boat to turn directions to view a particular view

Now we know why you were off the hyd food thread for a while
Also, I see that the Nainital pictures came out crisp. Practice makes man perfect, and you have perfected the art of photography by the end of trip?

Great vacation and nice driving experience. I am longing to do a drive to up north. Not sure when... but getting inspirations from such threads.

Thanks. My camera works well only when there is loads of sunlight. The minute it becomes dusky/cloudy it decides to go to sleep.

Also, I am glad that i am associated more with food than automobiles on an automobile forum. Isn't that an achievement?

Food thread is back in action if you havent noticed.

Both were beautiful places and absolutely loved the experience. But, driving to and back from Nainital through those crowded UP towns is a nightmare to say the least

We were lucky as even we never expected any snow in Nainital.

Shucks, I have been unlucky at Kufri once in the past so expectations at Nainital were pretty low

You need to take BQ out for a vacation. Take it out of this grime and dust where she is suffocating. Show her the mountains and do it this summer as she is now equipped with brand new tints too

Here is a brief video of me dis-embarking from the boat. Boy! It would not stand still even for a moment. Rocky to core......

Thanks for all your appreciation.

Here are the final set of pictures of Nainital with first couple of the mall road and rest of them took for your viewing pleasure by venturing out late in the night in that freezing temparature with gloves ON

great travelogue and nice narration and pictures.

just one thing, why did you hire another vehicle for sightseeing in Nainital? They don't allow private vehicles or any other reason?? and yes did you drive on the snow and black ice? If yes, what are the things to be kept in mind while driving on snow or ice.

thanks

Well, considering the entire driving that we have done till then and after going through the maddening crowd of UP towns and 40kms of some really twisty and dangerous ghat section. We deserved some rest and wanted to just enjoy the nature at its best. Hence, hired an Alto for sightseeing in Nainital

To answer your question of driving on ice. Two simple thumb rule to follow

a. Stay in low gear ( 1st or 2nd gear) so the car is in full control

b. When using brakes. Dont pump them in panic as wheels may lock. Pump gently for best results ( again the main reason to stay in low gears)

Thanks Prem. While returning it was only the driver and cleaner.

So we decided to take a risk of driving the North-to-South corridor. Yes, we took the MP route while returning.

Story of our anguish and sufferings to be unfolded soon.............

Thanks Prem. I am glad your liking the pictures. I guess the best part of the story is already over. Now its time for some blood and gore

We started from Nainital at around 10pm and were given a task of picking up Pappu bhai's son from Rudrapur and drop him back to Meerut. He has houses in both places.

It was fantastic to drive the twisties in the morning and 40kms were covered in 50 mins and we crossed all those crowded towns and reached Rudrapur and had a hearty parantha breakfast at Pappubhai's home in a gated community in Rudrapur and started for Meerut just after noon.

Some 275kms to cover.

We took the regular highway via. Almora etc. and while crossing Bilaspur we were stuck in a jam ( actually they stopped one side of the traffic) for a procession of sardarji's to go.

It was Jan 5th and was Guru Govind Singhji's birthday and there were so many sardarji's in one place that it was quite overwhelming. Never in my life seen so many sardarji's in one place. Enjoyed their fervor and enthusiasm as they were shouting slogans while passing us

We were standstill for more than 1 hour. I tried getting out of the car and immediately came back in as it was biting cold outside and quite heavy fog there and throughout the route almost until we reached Meerut around 6pm.

Night halt at Meerut with some amazing home made Meat Biryani, Kebabs and Dal Ka Halwa
