Ashish where are you buddy???

Lovely start, waiting for the story to unfold. I remember that morning was really cold as I was in Jhalana that time too. I can imagine Sariska would have been a few degrees colder being totally in the wilderness.

regards

Thank you Aravind for the kind words. I'm itching to recount but am waiting for Ashish's input, since he is the one who took photographs in the morning. I was just a mute spectator.

Delhi & surroundings would be extremely cold during these days till mid-Jan and may not be conducive to you. But whenever you do plan, do give me an advance notice since though I like to & try to be in Sariska at least twice in a month, sometimes circumstances force me to stay put.

Lovely Travelogue Guru! Nice set of pics too. In some I'm finding the colours are little too open. Is that intentional?

Oh boy, am I elated or am I elated? The "Old Man" compliments. Sir, will you please elaborate - "colours are little too open"?

If this in any way points to PP, then let me clarify that I take pictures and post as it is - good, bad or ugly. The only PP that I do is cropping the photograph to enhance the subject.

Either you've opened them up to show more details or they're slightly on the EV+ side. However, your other images are well controlled in terms of tonal range. Hence that question.

Post # 116 - Neelgai - It was evening & the light was low. I slightly overexposed to catch the colours.

Post # 126 - Dragonfly - This was my first attempt at a Macro with the 105mm - f/2.8. Miserably failed in the attempt.

Post # 157 - Sambhar deer - No Sambhar deer in this post..?

Post # 169 - Majestic - This peacock was sitting on a ledge under the shade. Had to overexpose to get the colours.

Post # 184 - Bee hive - Low light in the forest and a thick foliage cover from the top. No option but to overexpose...

Now my query - how & what would you have done in similar circumstances?

I always had in mind to visit a jungle safari, but never took it forward in a serious way. Infact had visited Corbett twice but the said visits was more-or-less a leisure visit rather than Jungle safari visit. Enjoyed luxury of jungle’s silence at fullest but never found any specific support to do a serious jungle safari.

October, 2011

Gurudutt asked me to join over in a sariska trip along with kpzen (Prajesh) and I immediately agreed for it seeking it as a chance I was looking for completing my long time wish for a watching a “jungle cat”. But maybe it wasn’t my call to reach sariska, father had some breathing problem on Deepawali night and had to be admitted for the same. Somehow things didn't work out and had to skip the scheduled program.

Flash to November, 2011

8 December, 2011

Gurudutt dropped a sms on Thursday for scheduled Sariska trip for two safaris back-to-back and my heart started up pounding again. We spoke and decided to fix it up on Saturday evening looking at Sunday engagements.

10 December, 2011

Again received a sms of Gurudutt stating that he is “Good to go” for tomorrow. I too had not very important tasks lined up to be undertaken on Sunday, so I was too “Good to go”. While discussing the itinerary in evening I was bit hesitant on leaving in night 2 AM as I usually avoid night driving due to safety reasons, but still the “Jugle cat” madness was top of my head so I agreed upon the same too.

Shared Idea of leaving 2 AM at night with my wife and she was like “What..... 2 AM ?? Are you sure ??” But I was deaf for all such arguments as I can feel the “Call” in my ears.

11 December, 2011

Settled up Alarm for 1:30 AM and tried sleeping earlier but thanks to my 3.5 yr old kid I wasn’t able to sleep before 11:30. Right at 1:30 AM alarm rang up, I ended alarm and again entered into my cosy quilt thinking of getting up within 5 mins. Thankfully Gurdutt’s phone rang up at 2:05 AM ended his phone and I was at fastest possible speed to get ready.

I am a bit hesitant now-a-days in driving fast, but at time I ain’t shy either. So it was it, 38 Kms from North Delhi to Gurgaon seems to be a race track to me and I reached the closing-point right within exact 30 mins.

Finally we roared our bull and started heading toward Sariska. We never got to know how kilometres turned into meters, time flew and we reached near to sairska within 3 hours and without any usual traffic drama.

Thanks to my hectic schedules, I was also happy to use my recently bought Nikon D80 at it’s fullest today for the first time. But thanks to sheer unluck my cam’s battery died over. I was a bit confused as I had personally kept it on charger over the night so it will be fully charged for next day.

To be continued....

Very few people are lucky to sight a Big Cat in their very first safari, leave aside a 45 minute viewing. I returned empty-handed from 7 sanctuaries before could sight one at Sariska on 23rd Jan,'11.

Ashish, wasn't I the one who was driving?

And what was so shocking aboute leaving at 2 am?

I was very very sceptical about your making it to my place in 30 mins flat..

Cmon Ashish stop blaming the kid for that, I bet it was the excitement of going to sariska that did not allow you to sleep

My guide Harisingh at Sariska, sent me a video taken from his mobile of ST 4 (male) killing a strayed cow inside the forest and dragging it away in the bushes. The video is not very clear because of the distance and the limitations of the mobile. Wish Harisingh had a decent cam with him...

This is my very first attempt at uploading a video on YouTube and sharing a link. I'm not very adept at it...

GD Sahab,

Though not clear due to the mobile cam limitations, its a beautiful and rare capture nevertheless. Missing you and travelogues. Will catch up with you soon.

Best Regards,

You Still haven't inserted it with right code

So at last it started up showing up that we are finally reaching our destination.
Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-enterance.jpg <br />
"National Sariska Park" Welcome Gate<br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-enterance_gate.jpg <br />
Chipping birds welcomed us.<br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-welcome_by_birds.jpg <br />
We got a information regarding some sightings of "Wild Cats" roaming in the park on the entrance gate only, thanks to GD's uncountable visits to the park he has got a very good PR with duty officials over there. We felt excited and started our journey.<br /> <br />
Luckily found fresh pugmarks very soon. Started following them.<br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-pugmarks.jpg <br />
Still Following....<br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-pugmarks_2.jpg <br />
Though riding on an open jeep in jungle area on an early morning with cold breeze flowing around wasn't a great idea but still excitement was something which kept us warm. Finally heart started up pumping up more blood while listening to a <i>"call"</i>. What is call - A sound raised by smaller animals for passing out information regarding movement of a bigger animal.<br /> <br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-call.jpg <br /> <br />
We started waiting up... No movement, No Noise, Only Scary Jungle's Silence... nothing happened. Started moving again, Found pugmarks, pugmarks and more pugmarks.<br /> <br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-pugmarks_3.jpg <br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-pugmarks_4.jpg <br />
Nothing much happened, traced pugmarks all over but still can't had a glimpse of the Wild cat.. Happen to be unrestful till noon following pugmarks only.<br /> <br />
Met a fairly old man performing his duties of sampling pugmarks for records purpose.. Even he admitted regarding ST's wandering around today.<br /> <br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-pugmarks_imprint.jpg <br />
Thanks to long distance lenses we were carrying could not take a proper picture of the imprint from a close position.<br /> <br /> <a href=Gurgaon - Sariska - Gurgaon - Phew...Finally sighted one of the Tiger Cubs of ST2-pugmarks_imprint1.jpg <div style=

Thank you Fazalbhai. Missing you too and your escapades. If only Harisingh had a decent cam, this video would've been a classic. Finally Ashish has started writing his version. As soon as he completes, I will post my narration.

Some very nice photographs. I especially liked that of the Cheetals sparring, Squirrel, Neelgai and some very very clear pugmarks.

For a first timer these are some very good photographs..

Waiting for more.....
