Thats Bad news :( Poaching should attract stricter punishments. May be something like making it a non bailable offense.

Great sighting of the Hyena. There are (or perhaps were) a few in the Nilgiri jungles, but I haven't sighted one yet - have only seen pictures from camera traps organized by IISc.

Corbett in Novemeber seems likely. Along with Kaladunghi (reserve forests, one can walk around without restrictions) and Pangot. Will check with you if the plan materializes, and if you want to come along.

This seems to be a good move and looks hopeful, but the ground conditions in Sariska need to improve.

All those who have been visiting Sariska would remember the old reception/ticketing counter that eventually was closed and a new one was opened a little ahead.

The old one was being demolished and there were reports that a new building would come up that would be part museum and part information centre. Finally it is ready and is being inaugurated today.

Though invited, unfortunately couldn't make it. The weather was fantastic & the drive would've been heavenly.

Some very exciting news from Sariska. ST 2 (Tigress) seems to have delivered cubs. Read all about it here:

If the signs are true then it is a very exciting news. ST 2 will take two to three months to bring her cubs out as & when she delivers. Will plan the visit then. Will certainly keep you informed. Currently the Park is closed for monsoons.

That would be lovely Abheek. I heard the news from Pench about the baby boom.

Collarwaali is turning out to be the Machchli of Pench.

Is it the begining of the end? Hardly 24 hrs have passed since the flawed judgement of Supreme Court and this is what we hear:

Very sad. When I was visiting Bandhavgarh and was asking about the buffer areas the forest guards told us that there is a clear demarcation in terms of fences between the buffer and the core. If a wild animal went into the buffer area and killed any of the cattle, the villagers would be compensated however if their cattle was brought into the core areas somehow and they are killed by the wild animals then no compensation is awarded. Not sure how it is there in the other parks. Of late the judiciary has started making some well-intentioned but totally ill-informed judgments in their zeal to clean up the mess our politicos have created. Sadly we need more experts to really counter such decisions which ultimately does more harm than good.
