Hi tanveer, just wanted to congratulate you again, but this time for having this trip featured on the April issue of Overdrive mag. Great writeup and the pics look amazing on paper. Just love the shot of the snow covered road.

I believe we have a celebrity among us now .

Bumped quite late to this, Nice log Tanveer! Just read about Overdrive's foolish act.

BTW, we were on a trip to R-Peo/ Kalpa last week! We could not stay at Kinner Kailash as there was no water due to bursted pipelines.

On return journey, we took a detour via Rampur-Kingal-Basantpur-Shalaghat-Arki-Subathu and finally joined NH-22 at Dharampur.

Hi Tanveer,
I plan on visiting Kalpa and Sangla, from Noida, this July by car. My wife and daughter of 5 years, will be my passengers for the entire journey. My trip plan as follows,

http://maps.google.co.in/maps?saddr=...t=h&mra=pr&z=9

We will start from Noida on the 1st of July; halting at Kalka overnight, en route to Narkanda where we wish to spend a night at the HPTDC hotel.

From Narkanda, we shall be driving to Kalpa. Our stay at Kalpa would not be more than a couple of days.

Chitkul would be our next destination. Here, we hope to spend another couple of days before heading back to Noida via the same route on 7th July 2013.

July being the month of monsoons, I was hoping to have your advice on this itinerary as well as any other detail that, in your view, is likely to be useful. Also it will be helpful to me if you advise any good/budget hotels at those places.

Regards,
Shome.

I was expecting this travelogue after you shared the Strawberry with Whipped Cream pic.

As usual Great Travelogue with amazing writeup and superb pics!!

We (me, Revved_Up and his bro) were also on the lookout for this WD during the same time and the same Friday early morning, we headed on the NH21 towards Manali. It was drizzling all the way and we reached Manali by 5 in the evening. Were disappointed about the rain not turning into snow even after we reached the mall road. Decided on to going towards Solang and to our amazement, we struck heavy snowfall. Heaviest we had ever seen. Few Pics:

Next day too the snow kept falling the whole day.

Hi Tanveer, stumbled upon this trip log today. As always awesome narration and photography . For lesser mortals living in down south like me, your logs are the soothing factor. I wish I had opportunities to visit these places.

Anyway, these places are marked and the guidance from your trip taken. Will be doing this circuit in my lifetime for sure.

Rated 5* BTW

Monsoon gets wild in sangla valley. So be prepared for temporary road blockages. Its all luck.
Noida - Kalka is 5-6 hours
Noida - Narkanda is 10-11 hours

Narkanda-Chitkul ~ 6-7 hours and Kalpa is 5-6 hours
2 nights in Kalpa and 2 in chitkul are good.

You can skip Narkanda, so Kalka-Kalpa(10-11 hours). Its better to stay an extra night in chitkul than narkanda. Its not worth staying unless you go in snowfalls season
