Default Gurgaon - Jhansi - Khajuraho - Bandhavgarh - Pench - Kanha - Bhedaghat - Gurgaon

Making plans to visit in April. The route I would take is - Gurgaon - Agra - Gwalior - Jhansi - Jabalpur - Mandla.

I'm thinking of leaving around 4 am and reach Gwalior by 10. Do sightseeing in Gwalior (need help & info) and then leave for Jhansi. Break journey at Jhansi. Spend the next day sightseeing Jhansi (need help & info). next day leave for Kanha and hope to reach by evening (depending on the road conditions).

Two full days at Kanha (3 nights) and then leave for Bandhavgarh. Again two full days at Bandhavgarh.

Return journey to Gurgaon. I'm a budget traveller, prefer decent accommodation (clean & hygienic bathroom must) but not expensive. Family prefers to stay in one room only with extra bed as the days would be spent sightseeing. Need input on places to stay & eat in Gwalior & Jhansi.

Looking forward to details, road conditions, safety etc.

Why not Khajuraho? I would prefer that to Jhansi.

Gwalior has the fort and palace. Jhansi is just 3 hours away. Road to Jhansi is being widened.

If staying at Jhansi, Hotel Sita is good, I am told.
Instead of Jhansi, why not stay at Orchcha, which is close by.

From Jhansi, you have the option of going via Lalitpur & Sagar to Jabalpur (not so great roads) or via Chhatarpur & Katni (god roads). But since you are also going to Bandhavgarh, maybe it is a better idea to return that way.

Road from Jabalpur to Kanha has some bad sections.

Hotels in Kanha & Bandhavgarh are super-expensive, I thought!

The appropriate route for your circuit is as follows:
Delhi-Agra-Gwalior-Jhansi-Orchcha-Lalitpur-Sagar-Suatala-Jabalpur-Mandala-Kanha-Mandala-Jabalpur-Katni-Umariya-Bandhavgarh-Umariya-Katni-Sahnagar-Amanganj-Panna-Bamita-Khajuraho (10 kms off your route)-Bamita-Chhatarpur-Jhansi-Gwalior-Agra-Delhi.

The Jhansi-Sagar-Laknadon route is still under construction and there are some completed 4-lane sectiosn and some bad sections too. YOu intersect the Bhopal-Jabalpur NH12 at Suatala, which is a better option to go via Damoh to Jabalpur. That way, you can also drop in at Beda ghat which is 10 kms off NH12 just before you intersect NH7 at Jabalpur.

The route from Katni to Panna is a lovely road. As you can see, Khajuraho is on the way.

gd1418,

Specifically re. Orchha, it is a mere 18.2 kms ( as per Google Maps) and 15 kms ( as per Wiki).

Orchha has some fabulous examples of medieval architecture, constructed by its Bundela kings. The Orchha fort stands next to the Betwa river and has the Rajmandir and the Jahangir Mahal. Then you have the cenotaphs (chhatris) along the Betwa. I remember that MPTDC has a neat hotel inside the fort, but this you have to crosscheck with the MPTDC.

Its not a bridge too far, if architecture tickles you.

As to Khajuraho as stated by hvk, nuff said!

Your plan is superb - if only I had been around in April, I would have loved to link up from Bombay. A Bombay - Orchha - Khajuraho-Kanha -Bandhavgarh trip is what I'd like to do (someday, sigh).

Regards, have a wonderful expedition

I agree on this route. Also, on the way out, you could take a 4-hour break at Gwalior to sight-see, then carry on to Orchha to reach before dark. You'll surely enjoy Orchha (a photographer's delight) a lot more than staying at Jhansi.

Stopping over at Bheraghat for a night is also a good idea. MP Tourism's Motel marble Rocks is not too expensive, and located very desirably.

Completed this circuit in 2007.

While you all make it more delicious by adding Orchcha, Bedaghat & khajuraho onto the circuit, doesn't it increase the kms and the expenses?

My original planned route

As suggested by you all

The difference is there to see. I require a detailed logistics included with the approximate cost. That shall help me plan better.

Thanks.

No chamatkaar at all Doc. Destinations are being added and deleted, hence the worry.

Things have started taking some shape a bit. Generally what has emerged is (with some gentle persuasion from Abheek) as follows:

Gurgaon - Gwalior - Jhansi - Khajuraho - Bandhavgarh - Pench - Kanha and back via Jabalpur visiting Dhuadhar.

Wife's childhood friend stays in Hoshangabad. Hope she doesn't insist...The fact that she is geographically challenged, helps quite a bit.. But there is something called the Woman's instinct, that even God couldn't understand.

Great! So you are doing all the top Tiger reserves one after the other. It was mighty unlucky that you did not see the elusive big cat at Ranthambhore but fear not, Bandhavgarh will no disappoint and you have to be the unluckiest person on earth not to see a tiger there. Eagerly waiting for your photos. MP tourism run Bagheera log huts at Kanha and white tiger resort at Bandhavgarh are really good places to stay with nice rooms and excellent food. If you are a birder white tiger resort at bandhavgarh is paradise.

GD1418

I'll also be leaving Delhi most probably 23/4/11 for my return journey to Bangalore via Gwalior-Jhansi-Khajuraho-Bandhavgarh and will be staying at Bandhavgarh for 3 nights taking a total of 6 safaris.

If your plan happens to be during these dates, then we can start together from Delhi.

PM me if interested I'll send you my contact details.

One of my friend who is well versed with Bandhavgarh / Kanha and winner of several international and national awards in Widlife hotography will make arrangements.
