Thanks deetjohn. For now, the priority is to upgrade the tyres as I have observed most of the times, the wheels stop but the tyres just don't provide adequate grip to bring the car to a hault.

That's one stupid decision I took for which I'm paying the price now

My guess is 195 60 R15 will be a good upgrade. Michelin (XM2) for comfort + grip at an added cost and Yokohoma (S-Drives) / Bridgestone (MY02) will have some good performance tyres. In a smaller budget, MRF ZLO also is a good option too. Also you can add performance brake pads if you wish, but I would suggest to wait till you find out about the tyre upgrades' efficiency.
So I'm assuming 195 60 R15 will be compatible with the stock zdi alloys. The stock vdi tyres are 165/80 R14 - 14x5J. Considering the stock vdi steel rims are 14inch wheels, if I want to upgrade tyres that are compatible with the stock vdi rims, what specification do you recommend?

On the stock rims (5J), a 185 profile is the max you can do is what I believe. There is some correlation between the 5J and max width (of the tyres) the rims can accommodate. If it's a 5.5J rim, then a 195 is possible is what I recollect - PLEASE do some more research on this point; I am NOT exactly sure what is the max you can go on the 5J rims; but a 185 should be pretty much possible.

I am running 195 60 R15 on stock alloys on our Swift. And its a good fit.

On 14" rims, 185 70 R14 is a good choice. The stock steel wheels can take that size.

Thanks guys. So which one should I go for? 185/70 with the stock rims or 195/60 with 15" alloys? I don't want to go wrong again!

If budget is not a constraint, 15" all the way. Along with the safety and fun aspect, the Swift will look good too.

Also look at 185/65 R15 XM2 if you are keen on Michelin.

Need urgent advice.
I had 195-60 R14 Mich xm1 on stock rims for my swift vdi abs (2006 model).. and have done about 45k kms till now on the same.
On Thursday two of the rear wheels got stolen and i have to get new tyres now.

Got a quote of 6.3k per tyre for Mich XM2 (195 60 R14) from Tyre professionals in bangalore . Bit tight on the budget so planning to stick to stock rims..
Are there any other options i can consider ?

Wheels got stolen?

Sorry, I can't picture wheels getting stolen from cars that are used daily. Where did it happen? Did you find your car on the jack or what?

I can't understand why someone would steal a set of 45k km old tyre which I assume didn't have much life left. Even the steel rims of Swift are easy to obtain from folks who switch to alloys. Does that mean you need to buy new rims too?

For the rims, you might be able to get it cheap from someone who is upgrading to alloys since no one buys back the steel rims and it sits in the attic of most owners.

Yes. They didnt keep stone/brick also. They had just settled the car on the road. Have put spare wheel on one side and jack on the other.
I stay in bangalore, near hebbal. tyres were okay , had some life left.
Strange thing is they have taken only 2 and am bit worried they might come back for remaining two as well. Now looking out for lock nuts and other options.

Sorry to hear that. I would recommend changing all 4. The old Michelins should fetch you some amount too.

Also look at MRF ZLO, Yoko A drive, Bridgestone ER 60 etc.

I was quoted 5800/- for XM2 (195 60 R15) by 2 dealers here 2 days ago. So just shop around and you may get a better deal.

If R 14's is what you are going to keep, go for 185/70/R14 Michelin Xm2's and If R15's is what you want, 185-65-R15. Its more than enough or a Swift. The Michelins are grippy enough, U won't need a 195 at all. Don't slow the car down by over sizing the tyres. Have been running on 185's all my life and they are more than enough for anything the Swift can put it through.

I agree that 185 65 R15 could be enough (almost enough ) for Swift Zdi, but it must be mentioned that the 195 60 R15 is the perfect size and I believe that it should be the OEM size on all the Swifts. The extra confidence that you get on twisties and fast turns is really good. Out of 1 lac km on my Swift, I have driven 165's,185's and 195's in that order. I must also add that 195 60 R15 also has definitely better steering response and slightly better braking capability.

My 2009 Dzire is running on 195/70/R14 tyres for 36000 kilometers now. They help the car to have a good ground clearance but the ride is very bumpy at the back. Moreover it is a pain to steer her around at slow speeds, the steering feels very heavy. It has very good grip but around the corners, I have noticed understeer. The tyre wall bulges out and does not help in handling. Milage is lower compared to stock 185 tyres. I get around 15-16kmpl on highway and 12-13 in city. I have experienced aquaplaning as well in the monsoons. Looking forward to downsizing the tyres to 185/70/R14.

Hey friends,

I have a 2011 Swift VXi - the older model. Its running on the stock 14 inchers, with 165/80R14 JK Tornados.
I need to upgrade the tyres now, but with a low budget on hand, I can only think of going for size 185/70R14 as they would not need new set of rims. I do not want to go for 195mm as they would be wider for my stock rims.

Now, can not I get steel wheels (as they would be cheaper than alloys) in 15inch size, and 100 PCD, 4 Lug config? If yes, please could somebody let me know which car comes with this kind of setup, so that I can look around for specifically them?
