Default Audi A6 Right Tyre Size?

Hi ,

I just purchased a pre-owned 2008 Audi A6, And my driver side front tires were losing pressure for last 2 days... so i thought it should be a puncture and got it checked from a road side vendor( as it was early morning)... He took the tire and did a physical inspection for any nails etc. But none found, so he later used the dip in water method, to find any bubbles, which was negative too. So then i decided to put the stepney to the front and wanted to get it checked again from a tire showroom/repair guy.

later i realised my front tires are 235 45r17 and the previous one was 245 45r17 (the punctured tire) and also my rear tires are 245 45r17. So my question is, is it a company policy to install different spec tires for front and rear. Or is it a faux pas on part of the previous owner.

thanks
Bharat

On rear wheel drive cars different tyres are installed sometimes. But your Audi would either be front wheel drive or quattro so the answer is no. The person probably could not get 245/45 R17 so got 235s instead. 245/45 17 is the right size.

Am driving on my way to shirdi and the car on speeds above 120km is shuddering and is very annoying. The car is 2.7tdi and is a FWD. so cud the shudder be due to the 235 tires?? So the 1st thing to do coming back to Mumbai is taking it to tire showroom and get it inspected. I stay in chembur, any Good shop recommended around chembur.

Thanks
Bharat

For the Audi A6 3.0 TDI quattro - 2008 its 225/50/R17

If yours is any other version, get it checked by the nearest Audi dealer to verify what is the correct size !

Once you are back get the balancing done, that should stop the shudder. I'm not sure about chembur, though some people here recommend Premjis in Thane which might be faster for you because of the highway. Otherwise Pal in Opera house is the one I use.

They gave the facelifted version 225s? I don't think so. I remember all the A6s I've seen having 245s. Either way 225/50 and 245/45 is the same overall diameter.

Mine came with the 225's Its the 2008 pre facelift model.

Leo - I suggest you also visit the dealer once & get the entire suspension setup & tyres checked out by them, in a pre owned car as complicated as this, you never know what could be wrong.

Nirmal , the previous owner changed the whole suspension just a month back... I came to know of this from the audi west dealer. Also the Audi west guys are very helpful , but only thing is I hate going through all the traffic to kalina and get checked there. Would rather go to the best tire guy in Mumbai .

Thanks
