Its a matter of personal choice, and as i a person who is running on 205/55/R15, i can vouch for the quality of drive it brings to my daily ride especially while doing fast cornering. I never heard of any suspension wears due to this up-size as the difference of over all ratios is below 1 % which is very minuscule.

Highway patrol.
Thanks. Any idea on the Hankook Ventus V8RS 205/55R15. I am hearing lot of positive reviews about this Tyre from Rapid owners in another forum.

Guys, went ahead and updated to 205/55R15 S drives. There is a marked difference in ride stability and it feels a lot planted. However braking does not seem to be great, probably because of the initial run-in period. Braked hard from 80Kmph and felt like the bite was off a little. The tyre looks good though on the car

I had Hankook ventus 215/45/17 on my Verna. They were obviously a lot better than the stock Bridgestone B250 but is loud at highway speeds and the sidewall is soft.
I had to baby the car on rough patches and my wife tore 2 of the sidewalls at different instances without too much effort.
I would recommend them only because it's 2k cheaper per tyre compared to Michelin's.
Cheers

Hello everyone. Thank you for all your inputs and suggestions on tyre & wheel upgrades. My 2015 Rapid TDI has done 32K km and road noise has been on the rise since 28K km. It is now almost unbearable to drive with... No amount of Iron Maiden is drowning the noise!

When visually inspected, there's a lot of tread remaining. But I've already had a puncture in the rear left tyre and don't think it's worth driving around in the stock Apollo Alnac 185/60 R15 tyres.

A friend of mine, @rgokul recently switched to Yokohama Earth 1 on his 2015 Rapid riding R14 black alloys.

I'm considering staying on stock size just to ensure the city potholes are addressed at speeds under 40kmph. As for my two annual trips to Vadodara/Indore and multiple to Bangalore & Pondicherry; I'm happy with the 185/60 R15 Apollo Alnac's. But they're too soft to be driven beyond 30K km.

Going to checkout all three; Apollo Alnac, Yokohama Earth1 and Michelin XM2 in stock size 185/60 R15 later today.

My Rapid is currently running with after market alloys and 195/60/R15 Yoko A drives and I need to replace the tires. I am thinking of 185/65/R15 because of cost, lighter steering and FE.

Is it possible to fit the 185/65/R15 on the same Alloys, could there be any problem ?

Which tires would you suggest, Cost and the place where I should get the tires?

Thanks

My Skoda Rapid is currently running OEM provided JK Vectra. I have earlier had JK Vectra on my Fathers SX4 (again OEM fitted), which i drove for around 20k km and never had any issues like puncture or any other incident and it is still running fine after 34k km. My Skoda currently has run around 8k km on the stock tyre on JK Vectra without any trouble.

The problem is that since I have driven on JK Vectra alone, call it luck or fate, and I am not sure how much of a difference an XM2 or Earth1 would bring. I plan to use Skoda for highway touring, once a month, along with daily office commute of around 40 kms a day. Will there be a considerable difference in driving dynamics and pleasure if i move to either an XM2 or Earth1?

Did you your your car a new pair of shoes? Curios to know, since if you did, you would have had a run on the new pair of tyres for quite some time now. if you could give a small review on your choice, it would help me and some others as well, in making an informed decision for a tyre change.

Okay, so got tires replaced to Pirelli 195/60 R 15 as the dealer said Yokohama S Drives 205/55 would be an overkill for Indian conditions. The dealer I went to is an extremely genuine and well known place in Noida and can be trusted for his advice. He had 205/55 R 15 also in Stock in both Yokos and Hankook. Total damages 23,500 for all 4

Even though I changed from stock steel rims and Appllo acceleres quite some time ago, I was quite lazy to take pics and post it. Here goes..

Momo 15" alloys.

Continental CPC2 205/55/15.

I don't recall the exact shade name of the alloys but these ones suit the cappuccino beige of the Rapid as if it's been made for the car!Name: ImageUploadedByTeamBHP1486807057.451872.jpg

Question Re: Skoda Rapid : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

My TDi has run close to 42000Kms on the stock 175/70 14" Apollo Acelere's which are close to bald now. Want to replace them with Yokohama 185/70 14" Earth 1's based on the mostly positive reviews. Though I would have loved to upgrade the rim size to 15", not really willing to spend on it right now.
What is the recommended tyre shop for Yoko's in Bengalooru (preferrably, the north).

Guys, my cousin in Bangalore wants to upsize the tyres on his rapid but sticking with the 14". He is on stock now which is 175/70/14. Went through the thread and most of them have upsized to 15"s.

Would 205/60/14 be ok or would 195/65/14 be the best bet?

Hi,

My 2014 Rapid 1.6 TDi has done 52k KMS on the stock Apollos (185/60 R15). It is high time the tires are changed. Below are my priorities.
  • Minimum road noise
  • Maximum comfort
  • Confidence inspired Handling (I do not want to miss out on Rapid's speciality) I am satisfied with what the stock size offers and will be happy if anything more is offered but the above 2 points should not be compromised.
  • Durable and Reliable

My questions are
  1. Is there a need to upgrade the stock size?
  2. If yes, which would be the best size keeping the above priorities in mind? Going through couple of threads in our forum, I felt 195/60 R15 will be good and is also within the permitted variance in diameter. Is there any other size I should consider?
  3. What is brand I should go for?

Below are the ones in my mind.
Bridgestone - Turanza and Potenza Series
I have had a pleasant experience with Potenza. I replaced the stock for my Fabia (2009-14) and was very happy with the upgrade. The tire noise increased a bit though

Michelin - Energy XM2 and Primacy 3 ST
Heard a lot about these tires. Even while replacing the tires for Fabia I was contemplating on going for Michelin. But the soft rubber coupled with bad roads held me back. Lately, there are lot of positive reviews for the durability as well.

Yokohama - Earth1
Only reviews and no first hand experience even in friend circles.

I need to change the shoes by this Friday as I am going on a drive this long weekend.

Went ahead and changed the tires today. Did not upgrade the size though. I went for Michelin Energy XM2 series - 5600 per tire with 6 months EMI (0% interest and 0 processing charge)

I stuck out with the Apollo Alnac's and replaced tyres with the same brand/type that came with the car. Just need to rotate them every 10K km max. Holding out hurts the soft compound. I can vouch for the Apollo Alnac's performance based on my 55K km driving in two years in Chennai and multiple road trips; most recent and longest being Chennai-Shirdi-Mumbai-Panaji-Mangalore-Bangalore-Chennai in five days. They hold very well on highways when over 80kmph with the right tyre pressure. Road noise penetrates cabin only on roughed/knurled road sections being prepared for a asphalt new layer. Lower tyre pressure (below recommended 29Psi in rear tyres makes door/suspension grind/squeak).

Overall, tyre pressure sensitive, soft and grippy when hot
