My Father-in-law has just booked an i10 auto and has told the dealership to upgrade the rims to alloys while keeping the OE tyres. So dealership will decide everything, including the design of the alloys.

So I am trying to rescue him from the dealer who will gleefully overcharge for the alloys.

This is what I am suggesting to him:

Tyre upgrade: 175/70R13
Model: ? (He wants easy turning of wheels, followed by ride and FE)

Alloys: 5.5 or 6 inch wide rims, PCD100, but what offset? The tyres better not stick out.

Would suggest 175/65-14. There are more options in 14" than 13". Ride is not affected much.

He doesn't care much about alloy design. I don't want to reduce the sidewall any further if possible. In my part of town, every mm of sidewall counts.

I wouldn't bother with 13" alloys. The OE steel wheels with wheelcaps will accommodate the larger 175/70-13 tyre with ease.

For 175 max rim width is 6 and min is 4.5-5".

These are the best options you can get in 13".

Viddy, I was doing these calculations back in 2005 for my Baleno. Thanks for the apollo alloys info. I need help in picking the tyre model since my knowledge on on-road tyres is a little outdated.

Tyre options are Apollo Aceleres, Yoko A drives and Michelin XM1+. The Yokos are the cheapest but have the best ride. They may not withstand very poor roads as well as the other 2.

2 more options now available which will take abuse the best are Bridgestone Turanza ER-60 and AR-10. Both are available in 175/70-13 but I'm not too sure how easy they are to find at your side.

Yes, the ER-60 is in stock in the local shop. Now, how good is it when it comes to ride comfort and steering? My F-I-L needs very light steering since he has spondylitis.

BTW, what is the OE tyre make in the i10? Need that info for exchange price.

Also, what offset alloys are being installed with 175/70R13 tyres? What is the ideal range?

I like the design of the alloys. Do you ahve the full specs like offset and width (esp)?

A quick poll guys... Apollo Acelere or Michelin XM1+ or Turanza Bridgestone ER-60 ?

I need ride comfort as it will be driven regularly on bad roads. But it shouldn't get disintegrated fast by the bad roads either.

Michelin XM1+ is my choice. Already running them on pathetic Mumbai roads

Ride quality is so much better than Yoko's and Apollos i had on my other cars.

Taking Delivery of my i10 Kappa2 Sportz on Thursday and looking at upgrading the tyres and wheels. I'm thinking League/HRS/Neo alloys with 175/70/R13 Michelin XM1+/Yokohoma A Drive.

I am interested in having a better ride, handling, braking whilst keeping the FE compromise and ODO error to a min.

What do you guys say ?

@steve_austin - you can also go for 185/60R14 tires on 14" alloys. Thats should keep the odo error to minimum while improving handling and barking.
