Pals,
I lost roundness of my '98 M 800 rear LH tyre.
There is a very evident wobble even at speeds as low as 50kmph.

Need guidance/ help in restoring it, if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Check tyre, rims, bearings and finally suspension in that order.

Swap rims and check. Most likely a bent rim. Or if the car remains stranded for long, it could be a flat spot on the tire, but first check the rims.

Thanks Guys.
Jacked up and found the tire is the culprit. Bearings were pretty smooth Suspension too was responding normal with a slight push from top of C/D Pillar.
When rotated with hand, the asymmetric profile is clearly visible. Also, the most possible cause was the vehicle was standing for two months before I drove to Chennai without being driven( could see the flat spot). Family were only cranking it leaving it for few minutes once a week to ensure the battery is not dead.

Now, here is the actual questionnaire to all the tire experts,

1. Is it possible to get back the tire to its original shape?
2. If so, will the tire repair guy be able to restore it?
3. Pls share any earlier experiences and associated costs for the same.

Thanks in advance.

This is not conclusive. This symptom can point to a bent rim too. Not saying that this cannot be the tire; you might have diagnosed it perfectly but before going to the remedy, lets be sure of the cause first.

However, some flat spots on tires can vanish after running a few kms. Some prefer inflating it more than usual and then using it for a few hundred kms, but then this has its own disadvantages in terms of compromising road grip and more wear and tear of suspension components.

Saket

Take a look at these wheels. It looks like the stock wheels have been modified t take wider tyres. Does anyone have any information on what modification has been done.

Yes, it's a separate industry in God's own country.

They ask for your stock rims(or 13 inches Zen's rim) and play around with its width, offset etc for that bulging look.

Thanks. Can you PM me the details. I'm thinking of a 800 project this vacation. I'm closely reading your 800 thread as well as that of Varun to make a list of stuff to be done.
Alloys for an 800 are almost impossible to find these days.

I don't have the contact details, but remember seeing someone posting them in the same group from where you have taken this pic. Will try to find out.

You do get some alloys in NeoWheels, Plati and Tiara(promoted by Bridgestone)

It is a process where the wheels are widened by cutting, adding a steel plate and welding it back together. A high precision process which can be done if one has a lathe and a good arc welding machine.

Just drive around for a few days with a 10-15% more pressure than usual. Flat spots are supposed to resolve themselves with use.

Finally, was able to spend some time on my ride after a two week break.

Updated to 35psi on that particular LH rear tire. Rest all at 30psi.

Will check after 3rd Jan. Thanks for the tip.

Maintain equal tyre pressure in all tyres, at least same pressure in an axle. Else you may face handling and stability problems.

Does anyone know if any company manufactures tyres in the size 165/65/R13 and is it the right upsize for an 800? Earlier it was available in Maxxis MA-V1 but I can find it anymore.

Hi fighterace,
I am already facing the rear LH wheel shake pretty clearly due to a flat spot in the tire created due a three month long idle standing of my ride.
Now, trying all the ways and means possible to restore the roundness of that tire.
Being it in the rear axle, I don't see any other differences in the movement other than the pre existing vertical jerks.

Right now, its getting its A/C worked upon.

Will keep this thread posted on the improvements from tire if found.

Regards,
Maverick79
