Default Bridgestone launches B290 range of Tyres in India

ODMag tweeted this sometime back -

Bridgestone launches B290 range tyres in India

Quote:
Bridgestone, the world’s largest tyre manufacturer has launched a new passenger car tyre called the B290 that was developed specifically for the Indian market. The B290 will be available in 25 sizes with varying widths and sidewalls between 12-16 inch rim wheels. This means the B290 could be fitted from entry-level cars like the Tata Nano to premium cars like the VW Jetta.

The company hasn’t revealed prices yet but we expect it to be priced around Rs 4,500 a piece when it reaches showrooms by mid October. The B290 has about 50 per cent localized content at present. Vaibhav Saraf, GM sales and marketing, Bridgestone India says that, "with the appreciating Dollar, it is affecting us because of nearly 50 per cent imported raw materials. In order to compete strongly with Indian manufacturers, we will have to increase localized content."

The B290 has a square tyre profile to the traditional rounded outer sidewall. The company says that this provides a better contact area where the tread touches the road. Other benefits of this profile are minimized shoulder wear and fewer tyre deformations.

The company promises increased tyre life of 10 per cent over its predecessor and also better handling and braking in dry and wet conditions than its existing B250 range that this product is eventually going to replace. The B290 will soon replace the B250 in the replacement tyre market although the company will not pull out the latter completely. OEM commitments for the B250 will continue for over a year more following which the B250 will be phased out.

Speaking on the occasion, Tomio Fukuzumi, Managing Director, Bridgestone India Pvt. Ltd said “We are pleased to offer B290 to the Indian Consumers as the product has great features that allow better tyre life and fuel efficiency.”

Bridgestone has 2700 exclusive stores at present in India at present with plans to expand it to 3800 outlets by 2018. The company has two plants in the country, one at Kheda in MP and the other at Chakan, that was inaugurated in February 2013. Cumulatively, the company makes 20,000 passenger car tyres per day and around 1500 truck and bus tyres per day.

Exactly what I was going to say. I've been searching for details the whole weekend and there's nothing online except for the cookie cutter press release.

Atleast put up the details on website.

The website is the most useless one. It has no mention of Turanza AR-20 unless you do a google search which shows a link to the page on their website. You can't navigate to the AR-20 from their main page.

It's there in their news section but still no sign of it in tyre selector!

The B290 is a replacement for the B250 which was an entry level tyre. The B250 currently is standard fitment on some cars like the Fluidic Verna (195/55-16) and some cars with 185/65-14 or 175/65-14.

These tyres will be eventually replaced with the B290. More or less it should be similar with some improvements made marginally.

Guys, how do you rate this tyre? Am planning to buy this for my Ecosport. Looks like the side wall is stiffer(which is what I want) than MY-02. Expert advice?

How are these tyres ? I am planning to change Waggie tyres 145/80 R13 from OE shod JK to B290. I am expecting better grip and less noise.
Amazer 3G I wanted to avoid and Michelin XM2+ are way to expensive for the car which is going to be run in city and has already done 51K.

I thought the B250 was a comparatively newer tyre? Also remember reading one of our official reviews recently that the car comes which new generation B250 tyres that are quite satisfactory.

I am also using the 250 in the Xcent, but since it is used by parents - never bothered to check much about the tyres!

Any idea what prompted them to replace the range with the 290?

Changed my waggie tyres from original JK 145/80 R13 Ultima NXT to 148/80 R13 Bridgestone B290.
I now know how much tyre noise contribute in overall NVH. The car is much smoother and silent. May be after 52K kms. (51920 km to be precise ) the JK tyres were simply not in useable range. Grip though was not bad with JK. Noise and ride were not as good as B290. Lets see what transpires after 150 kms. when the tyres are actually run in.

The B250 is old. Nothing new about it!

Just wanted to post a quick update.

After installation of tyres, Waggie must have done around 100 kms. The braking now seems to be better as compared to my grand i10. Gi10 has Amazer 3G.
The cabin is really silent, but somehow, on coarse surface, the noise level is higher than JK. But otherwise, B290 is excellent. Very nice wet grip and ride quality has improved.
JK is right up there with the best. 4 years ago, grip and braking were same as they are now. I dont doubt JK for quality. Even after 51K, the tyres had grip. Need to appreciate how JK managed to sustain quality.
B290 is a very nice choice for anybody who has a preliminary running in city. For highways, I would certainly prefer XM2+, but for my waggie, the choice seems to be correct.

Hi got my 35k kms run Vista fitted with B290 tyres and did a trip to chennai. The ride quality and grip was good. The car has run 1700kms after the tyre change. But for the past few days I've been noticing severe tyre noise. Will be taking my vista to a Bridgestone tyre engineer this Tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Looking for a new set of tyres for my i20 . Getting B290 at 4200 apiece /Yokohooma Earth 1 @ 4000 a piece for 185/65/R14
Stock Apollo Accelere lasted 44k but gave numerous punctures in last few years( 2 are running with tube, necessitated by sidewall punctures). One of the reason for the is also potholed Gurgaon roads. Looking for a sturdy tire. Any one with longterm reviews of Bridgestone B290 or Yokohoma Earth 1. Or any other recommendation looking at the kind of craters one drives on in Gurgaon.

I need to change the tyres on my Ertiga. I would appreciate if anyone can post long term feedback on the B290. My priorities (highest to lowest) are:
- Road grip and braking distance
- Noise
- Ride comfort

thanks!
