Default Falken Sincera: Excessive sidewall flex

Hi folks,

I finally got a long overdue tyre swap done on my 2008 swift. I was on a very tight budget and opted for the Falken Sincera SN835.

My old setup

Rims: 15x6.5
Tyres Yoko A drive 196/60 R15 (Lovely tyres. great comfort and awesome handing)

New Tyre size:
Falken 185/65 R15 (after confirming that it is a fit on my rim, price 3600/-)

There was no issue while in traffic and speeds upto 40kph. But after driving for a while, i discovered MASSIVE sidewall flex. My Swift is now wallowing like its driving in sand. This should not happen at all since my Rims are wider than Swift 15" rims. That means the sidewall flex would have been more if i had those rims. What the hell kind of tyres are there??

Does anyone have any experience with this tyre? Also, i feel that my cars basic safety has been compromised. What should the air pressure be on this model of tyre, and should i rush over to a dealer to exchange for a different set? How much exchange value would i get for these tyres in Noida (they have just 50km on them)?

Thanks in advance

Is the flex with all the tyres or specific tyres?

Stick to manufacturer specified tyre pressure.

If it feels bad even with right pressure, raise a warranty claim with Falken and get them replaced

What tyre pressures do you keep ? Tyre pressures should be changed according to the type of tyres and their sidewall characteristics.

I had a friend who has the same Swift as mine but with the stock Vectras, If I kept 35 and 33 as I keep in my Swift Diesel on his car, it felt like a stone, in my car the same pressures because of a little softer sidewall of the Michelin XM2's, feels perfect for the highways.

Same must the case with you, try a higher pressure and see if things change.

The issue is in all tyres unfortunately. So warranty seems unlikely. Will still try however.

I just got the tyres installed yesterday. the guy had set it to 32 then. And i cannot find the recommended tyre pressure for this model. Should be 33 like it is for other similarly sized tyres.

Hi there,
can you post of a pic of the sidewall for reference?

Also, can you give a shot with older stock rims?

Try higher pressures just to see if things improve. Swift Diesels have higher pressure in the front and a 2 to 3 PSI lesser at the rear. Mine is 35 and 33 for front and rear. Works like a charm. Play around with these kind of settings and see if things improve.

If I kept 32 on my Michelins, I think I would feel like I am driving on a punctured tyre while taking a turn.

15x6.5 is still acceptable for 185/65R15 even though it's on wider side for this tread width.

This would have happened if rim width was too narrow. Tyre pressure would be only reason for wallowing effect. Please try higher tyre pressure as suggested by 'humyum'. Don't see a reason for fault in tyres.

Rush over and exchange - since you said you have the tyres put on just yesterday, go back to the tyre dealer and ask for an exchange asap for Yokohoma Earth 1's 190/60 or a 185/65 , confess that you did not like the tyres and that you will pay any marginal amount for that one day of use + the extra amount for the Yoko's. The tyres will easily be with you for at least the next five years and every time you cross 40 kmph, you will get the same feeling
(even though the issue might not be there). For self satisfaction i think it would be a better option.

Here are the Images. Does it look like the tyre pressure is so low that the sidewall would flex like this?

There must be an issue with this set of tyres and if I am not wrong, they come with warranty and the issue can directly be taken up with Falken.

I replaced my old Michelin with these tyres for my Jazz last August and I have not faced any such issues. In fact my car's handling, road grip, ride comfort, etc. has improved drastically from earlier and so far I have clocked close to 15k + kms city + highway included with the new set of wheels.

Thanks. Finally a review of these tyres. I really dont want to shift to another set and incur the exchange loss. Will recheck tyre pressure and take a decision.

Check whether all wheel nuts are properly tightened.

OK so its confirmed. the tyres are weird. got the pressure checked and set to 33 psi. thats what i kept with the a drives prior to this.

the floaty wallowy feel comes after crossing 50kph. and since i travel from noida to greater noida and back, avg speeds are around 90kph. Scary! registered for warranty and will get in touch with them asap.

If tyre pressure has been ruled out, as suggested by 'SS-Traveller' please check if all wheel nuts are securely tightened or not. Jack up car, check for lateral movement of tyre. Tighten wheel nuts in case of lateral movement. If you manage to remove tyre, please check if alloy has mated correctly with hub. And secondly check if thread of wheel bolts is in order or not. Worn thread will cause an issue with nuts not being able to tighten completely.

I think you have gone for Falken Sincera SN835 tyres. Very few online reviews for these, but no complaints so far.

Thanks, ill do that. Lug nuts are new. replaced just a month back. The tyre sitting on the rim lip could possible be an issue, but wouldnt it snap into place even after a bit of driving?
