Hi,

My Getz has run about 58K KMs and the tyres are nearing their end (I am a sedate driver, anticipate braking and tyres on my cars usually last long. even these tyre are still good enough for another 5K KMs).

The stock tyres were tube type - 175/70. Now I want to go for tube-less ones. Please suggest which ones should I go for.

Cheers

Nitin

Are you looking for upsizing the tires?

Looks like the stocks are 175/70-13.

If 175/70-13 then its Michelin XM1.
If upsizing to 175/65-14, then its Michelin XM1+.

Both the tires offer very good ride and handling. XM1+ is the best among two.

I sent a PM to vittalnrv about this and he says that there is no issue with even with max load.

djay99, are you going for 14" or 15" wheels?

Really confused vaibhav. Budget - not a problem.
15" will reduce ride but increase looks and handling.
14" Overall good ride and handling.

I am inclined towards 14"

Will check 15" S drives and if they last for 30K KM then will go with them. Heard good news about them.

What about you?

I am inclined towards 15".
But I have decided to take final call based on the alloy design that I like. If its in 14" then I will go for 14"s.

Thanx DJay. No I am not looking for upsizing the tyres. I know very little about tyres, and don't know the pro/cons of upsizing.

How will it affect performance/ride/handling/fuel efficiency? What do you recommend?

Ishan, your inputs will be valuable here :-)

Thanx KP. Any idea how much Michelin XM1 costs? And where should I buy it from? I am based in Noida.

Since you are a sedate driver, don't mess the awesome Getz ride quality with a tyre upsize. Stick to the same size, and enjoy the ride quality / better FE.

Michelin XM1 should be around 2800 per tyre.
Lajpat Nagar has a couple of good tyre dealers.

Guys, I am thinking of buying only 4 wheels and tires and keeping the stock wheel as spare wheel.

Is it a good idea?

Thats a very good idea and will save money if you are going for 195/60-14.
Buy 4 alloys and 5 tires. Mount 5th tire on steel wheel (5.5J)

I am thinking of only buying 4 tires and go for 15" alloys and tubeless. I think I can still use the stock wheel+tire for a short distance. The difference in outer diameter of 175/65-14 and 205/50-15 is only 3mm.

Thats how it was with my Camaro in US.
