My friend will be getting Getz Petrol with 175/70 R13 tyres. Tyre upgrade is planned to 14" alloys with 175/65 tyres (the same upsize which Hyundai provides with Getz CRDi).

I would like to know:
1. Whether we can upgrade tyres any further on 14" alloys?
2. He wishes to have tyres which last very long. The car will be driven to the lanes of Old Delhi from South Delhi. He wishes to go in for Michelin/ Bridgestone/ Yokohama.

On this base, I have shortlisted the following (in 175/65 R14):

Michelin Energy XM1
Bridgestone Potenza GIII
Bridgestone Turanza ER-60
Yokohama A Drive
Yokohama A539

Please suggest the most suitable one. Tyre pattern is not a concern.

I would request all to please help as the car will be delivered on Monday, and we wish to spend Sunday for checking the prices keeping in mind the suggestions from fellow members.

Thanks
Warm Regards
Tanveer Singh

Also, the side sticker on the quarter glass has a code M5 : Does it mean that the rims are 5J or 5.5 J - bocs i guess if i were to change to 185/65/R14 then the recommended width is 5.5 J but for 185/60/R14 it is 5J.

Kindly refer to michelins recommendation for the rim size. Hope this helps.

I check up on the site : Phew ! - I am still unable to decide between 185/60 -14 and 185/65 -14. Ideally i would prefer the 185/65 types but I hope that by doing this pickup and FE won't change because for the Getz to shoot ahead like a rocket it needs the boost and the pickup - it makes the car surge ahead leaving traffic far behind.

If u want only 14" wheels for your Crdi, don't even think twice just get 185/65-14. Perfect setup for the car !!

You are worried of pickup with 185 tires in this car ????????????
Even if u put 255 tires it will still keep pulling away to glory.

Yesterday only i did 190kph with 400kg of load.

Prajesh - done !

Replaced the Goodyear's with XM1+ (185/65 - 14) from Michellin. Got 5 tires at 8,000 after exchange.

Here are my observatons :

1. Braking definitely improved.
2. Driving height increased - gives a commanding view on the front.
3. Comfort for passengers - definitely better - I would say far better over potholes and
bumps.
4. Acceleration and pickup - somehow I feel, has decreased - maybe the tire's need
running in ..?
5. The car seems more heavy now - that woosh feeling has gone down - maybe it's
raining and damp out here - so something to do with the diesel ...
6. The steering too feels a bit harder and heavier -

maybe i'm just imagining these things ... will get back to u more on this ...

But I have 2 fundamental questions :

1. Why do people feel that the CRDI Getz is under tired ?
2. What is the effect of the increased side wall ht as in the case of 65 tires over say 60 ones as in 185/60 - 14 - bcos i believe Anju has posted 185/60 -14 is the best tire for the Getz.

Your comments please - Should i go back to the dealer and get 185/60 -14 or keep these ones ..

Samatre - What tyre pressure are you running??

1. The Getz has too much power & torque and so overwhelms the stock 175 section tyres. With the Pete's box on, its possible to spin the tyre in the first three gears. Without it, first two gears. And it needs all the help it can get in the braking department.

2. Better comfort and less susceptible to sidewall bulges.

Stick to 185/65, its a good upsize for the CRDi.

[quote=iraghava;1374364]Samatre - What tyre pressure are you running??

Tyre pressure : 32 for the front and 31 for the rear : but I guess 30/30 is the preferred one. When the tires were fitted the dealer said he had put in 30-/30 and then I tought that there was a bulge on the under side - I wanted the tires to be straight so i increased it to 32/31 !

sorry : din't understand : what is spinning of tires ..

I want to keep 185/65 R 14 as yours mainly due to better GC.

I agree we donot have much options for 14inch alloys and 15 inches have some of the best alloys. I have seen a few 15 inches lenso which are great.
So Kiren : what tire did you upgrade to ?

Guys, my friend will be getting Getz with 155/80 R13 tyres tomorrow. He'll go for original Hyundai 14" alloys. There is a slight confusion regarding tyre upgrade. 175/65 R14 was told to be non-optimum considering the alloy width to me by a friend, so we're thinking of 185 series. But BHPians have suggested 2 different sizes (in 14"):
185/60 : -0.1% Speedo Error
185/65 : 3.1% Speedo Error
Source: Car Bibles
I think 185/60 shall be the best option. What do you suggest?
Thanks

Cool

I Finally break my silence, It's been 2 years since I've been following T-BHP threads, and finally I decided to answer.

Well this is due to 2 reasons

1. I just got a Getz CRDi (2nd July 09), already have done 700 Kms on it!!! - Just wanted the world to know that I loved it!!!
(* I got a pretty good deal at it, as they were in a hurry to launch the i20 Diesel - got a decent discount - the car cost me 5.7 L on road )

2. I need new shoes for the car!!, I've narrowed down to 15" (well they look cooler on 15s than on 14s)

Here is the spec that I'm looking for:

195/55/R15 - either Bridgestone Potenza GIII or Yokohama A Drive
Does anyone know the current market price around Hyd?(don't want to get ripped off)

Also the choice of Alloys are between 2 models in the Lenso Samurai series - I was quoted 21K for a set of four - does it seem reasonable?

The Beast is black in colour, and I'm considering either matt Black or podered black alloys for it. - asthetic advice will be much appriceated

Peace Out!!!
Rahul

Thumbs up

Akshay1234 - Thanks for the suggestion on S Drives, any particular reason why? and what is the approximate price for the same?

regarding 205 vs. 195 - With the Hyduralic Power Steering in the Getz, 195 is the farthest I want to go.

anyways thanks for the tips, buddy!

turbolover,
Go for 195/55-15 Yoko S drives. This is the best upsize for getz in 15".
Ride quality will be decent and yoko s drives are really good when it comes to handling and braking. They should cost you around 4K per tyre (without exchange).

I have 205/50-15 in my getz crdi and ride quality is bad man and steering is heavy. So stick to 195/55.

195/55 R15 S drives will cost you around 4.5k per tyre.

Prices for alloys are good. Take them!

Please, for heaven's sake, stay away from those Bridgestones!! They are pretty much the worst tyre you can get for that price!

My suggestion is also for the S drives.

Isnt the 195/50/15 a better upsize considering there is a 1.23% difference compared to the 2.1 of the 195/55/15 ?
