In 17" the only options are (keeping in mind stiock size as 175/80 R14):

195/55 R17
205/50 R17

But I don't think you'll find either size.
i might be wrong at this but i have always been told if you put in 195 with the alloys they are like 205's on the car, increase/stretch an inch or something.so if i go for 205 they would be like 215's on the car and touch inside. i dont know how true this is.
how are bridgestone tyres for the car. i have had a bad experience with michellin so dont intend to go for them.

U can't have 60 profile 17" tyres bcos the correct 17" upsize is 205/50-17.
Find out the tyre of the merc(in pic) with 17" alloys.

why would a tyre manufacturer sell a 205 tyre as 195.

Well the stretching part depends on your rims mainly, if you fit wider rims then they will stretch otherwise not. Do post complete details of the rims you're getting especially the width, so we can advise you accordingly.

It can also be a scenario that 195/205 are too thin to be mounted on that rim due to the rims width.

the wheel that i want are the ones on Presidents E220 and the picture that Gordon has posted. i dont know the details of it as i have also seen pictures of it only. will do so when i see it at the shop dayafter.

i dont understand the highlighted part exactly . does it mean that if the rim is wider and you have to stretch the tyre to fit it on. this is bad for the tyre right. i hope i am understanding it properly.

Can you ask Ronnie what tyre size he had on those wheels?

Well like every car has a maximum width tyre you can fit, similarly every wheel size has a recommended tyre size band that you can fit on it without any problems & expect it to perform to its optimal limits. For eg. if you mount a 215 sized tyre on a 5J rim, while it will work but the sidewall will be under tremendous strain as it will be flexing a lot as the beads of the tyre will be sitting too narrow (due to the narrow wheel) compared to the contact patch. This will lead to uneven tyre response when loading the tyre sidewalls & increases the chances of failure too as it puts unnecessary loads on the tyres.

Hence for every tyre size there is a recommended Wheel width which should be followed. For eg. 195 works best on 6J while 205 works best on 6.5J.

i do not have a clue about it. what are the good brands that i should go for Kp. so now if you say these are 205 or 215 on the w123, then i can fit in a 205 in the 230c. now it all depends on the rim size, hope they are 16".

Michelin and Yokohama are the best brands available at the moment.
Correct Upsizes assuming the rims to be 16" would be 205/55-16 and if its 17" then 205/50-17..
please confirm about the rim size first.

These are my set of tires and rims we got for this car.

205/60/r 16 Michelins from benz themselves. A good simple design for the rims from AMG.

nice rims Dan. Where did you get them from and how much do they cost?

@ Faithless. nice rims but they look bigger. i also feel the wheels would over shadow the W123's simple looks.
