Default Which tyre for 1.8TPi (Skoda 20vTurbo).

Hi
I am really confused about which tyre to get.
All I know is I dont want GoodYear, for some reason put off by them.
I have liked Bridgestone, Yokohamas, Michellin and Perilli.
The size I am looking at is 215/60/R15 V rated.
Please help me decide which ones to get...
info on price and performace would be great.
Thanks a lot.
Cheers,

Hi,

I own a vRS with stock 16 inch wheels - came shod with Dunlop sport 2000 as the O.E. tyres.

Car was tuned a few months back by Pete to 240 bhp and then I switched to Yoko - db Decibel 215/55/ 16 - ride was really harsh. Also, the overall rolling radius was increased due to his tyre profile.

Now running on PP2's - 225/ 50 / 16. They are great. Car rides and handles much better now.

The problem I am having is that i have 15" Rim size and not 16" as the vRS. Hence I am finding it hard to find tyres that suit my purpose.
The only ones I could find in the size I require with the V speed rating was the YOKOHAMA AVS ES 100.
I would like some more choices but is it really hard to find tyres with the following size: 215/60/R15 V
HELP!!

Nanu,

The 1.8 Tpi comes with a 6J rim; I doubt it you would be able to fit 215 size tyes ( My local tyre guy here says no. )

I think it would be better for you to upgrade to 16 inch wheels, rather than buy 15 inch 6.5 J wheels.
RS alloy wheels for eg. are 6.5 J, with either 205 / 55/ R16 (or) 225 / 50/ R16.

Check this link: Tyre Calculator - Alloy Wheels - Specialist supplier of alloy wheels and tyres packages, 0% Finance and Fast Delivery

Let me know if you need help with pricing on the tyres.

are you running on the stock rims or do you have aftermarket alloys?

no s-drives haven't replaced s-drives but are an addition to the yokohama's tire range.Though the yokohama avs sport's have been discontinued.

Rim Size is 6jx15.
It is stock rims, I thought 6j was the outer limit for 215.
Now I am even more confused as to which ones to get.

The only 16in wheels I have liked are the vRS ones but they are very hard to get. Except at the show room where they are about 12k each, so lets leave that out for now as it really then exceeds my budget.

So whats the best size I can get for this car on these rims....
I currently have 195/65 R15 - 317.25(OD)
205/60 R15 - 313.50 will reduce my side wall height which I dont want, as it will make the ride more harsh
215/60 R15 - 319.50 This wont fit on 6jx15 rim?

Please Help..

Nanu - Unfortunately neither Michelin nor Yokohama have any options in 215/60 R15.

As for the alternate sizes, these are the correct upsizes & the options available:

205/65 R15: Michelin Energy MXV8/Michelin Energy XM1+/Yokohama A300/Yokohama A-Drive

205/60 R15: Michelin Energy XM1/BFG G Force Sport/Yokohama ES100

Out of these I would give the BFG a try if you're looking for good grip & performance.

You probably meant that the S-drives haven't replaced the ES-100's ..

Infact, the ES100 has been discontinued only in certain specific sizes where they have been replaced by the S-drives ..

for e.g. 195/50/15 and 205/50/15 are now only available in the s-drives, earlier they used to come in ES 100 as well ..

In our market tyres in 60/65 profile are available in ES100 while lower-profiles are in S-Drives.

...thanks for the help everyone...
Can someone confirm, that I cant fit 215/60R15 on these rims 6jx15.
As 215/60R15 really seems like a nice size to upgrade to.
The various online tools I have checked say it is ok...

if not, then is 205/60 R15 fine? or will the ride become more harsh compared to 195/65 R15 ?

BFG G Force Sport, Yokohama ES100 can someone help me in the pricing of any of these in 205/60 R15.

Thanks

215/60 will lead to a speed/odo error & is avoided at best. As for the ride of the 205/60 compared to the 195/65, there would be a marginal difference at best, if any.

I think Michelin PP2 comes in 205/60 R15. My car is running on them. Highly recommended.
