With 15 inchers and wanting for 185s for the swift diesel..whats the ideal upsize?is it 185/65/R15s and what tyres are available in the same?

Hey Humyum, you are spot on with the upsize for your swift. Id suggest Michelin as they have the perfect balance of all three things anybody would want - Comfort, Performance & yes, even Price.

In 15" 195/60 R15 and 205/55 R15 are the best possible available sizes.

But is michelin availabe in the 185/65/R15 size?

Yeah but i dont want to go the 195 way.I want to stick to 185s and have 15 incher white alloys..

Hey humyum, checked the michelin site, they dont have this size available.
Yokohama is the next best bet - Here are the Yokohama Models available in the size Yokohama 185/65/R15 Tyres
Only problem is, you will have to find out about the official Yokohama dealers...

I got my tyres from Anand Tyres in Milan Subway. Bombay Tyres in the same area is also a dealer.

The distributor for Yokohama in Mumbai is Mr Hanosh Patel. You can check with him on other dealers. He has his own shop somewhere in South Mumbai. PM me if you want his number.

Hey binoyb22, do you want to upsize or upgrade?

Upsize means you want to go in for bigger rim size (15 inch in your case)

Upgrade means you want to get better tyres offering more grip (wider tread - layman terms, thicker tyres) but the rim size stays same (14 inch in your case)

Anyway, if you want to upsize, the right upsize would be 185/55 R15 as the Getz Prime CRDI has the original size as 175/65 R14.

Also, if I want to keep the current 14" rims, which one should I go for? Is a 205/70/R14 available? I don't want to decrease the profile, because the car already has an undertyred look.

155/65-13 Michelin XM1.
14" for an alto is useless and not advisable.

1. Ideal upsize would be 195/65-14 or 195/60-15 as in case of Swift.
2. All upsizes u have mentioned are wrong.
3. When u upsize your tyres the profile will decrease. Thats a rule.

I would like to say here that people, please post your current size when asking advice for an upgrade/upsize. It makes it easier for finding out. Thanks.

ashutoshb - Id suggest you stick to 14 inches and go with the size 195/65 R14 if you want to upgrade as stated by kpzen. Although i must say that 185/70 R14 is a very good size. 185 tread gives ample handling and perhaps if you must, stay with the same size but buy another brand of rubber like say michelin or yokohama. Also, remember, handling is not only dependent on the tyres but also on the chassis of the car. So by only upgrading or upsizing doesnt mean that you will get huge amounts of handling performance. (Though they do help )

badboyscad - Like kpzen has stated, its useless to go for 14 inch. Read on below as to why.
But kpzen, shouldnt the upsize be like 165/70 R13? Am not sure about this as i havnt come across many of these profile rims and tyres.
Also, Michelin does not have 13 inch in XM1 series.

And people, always keep in mind, upsizing leads to loss in ride quality even though it leads to gain in handling. So the bigger the upsize, the more your behinds will feel our roads.

Most cars are happy with a +1 upsize, meaning that you can go 1 inch bigger. Eg. Alto has 12 inch rims, so 13 inch should be ok. +1 upsize is a balance between loss in ride comfort and proportionate gain in handling performance. The higher you go after +1, the higher the loss in ride comfort as proportionate to the VERY marginal gains in handling.

Hope this helps people who are confused and want to go in for those huge bling bling rims. Remember, huge rims and almost negligent rubber are a fad in other countries simply because their roads are super-smooth. Our roads eat up suspensions for snacks, so you know how your butt will feel

Another thing to note is that the bigger the upsize, the more overtime your suspension and other parts of the car will put in to cope with it.
This will not only lead to higher wear and tear of mechanical parts but also bigger maintainance and repair bills & the thicker the tyre, the lower the fuel efficiency.

HOPE THIS HELPS A LOT OF PEOPLE IN UNDERSTANDING WHAT UPSIZING/UPGRADING IS ALL ABOUT.
