Thanks for pointing that out Nikhil. I read in this thread that 165/65/R13s can be run on the stock 4J rims and there was one post about someone running 175/60/R13s on the stock steel rims.

Apart from improper wearing of the tyres, what kind of problem would this (165s on 4J) cause in high speed runs (100-120 kmph) and cornering? Negligible, Acceptable or Serious?

Now that I have upgraded the tyres, where can I find 4.5J or 5J steel rims? Should I look out for Getz's rims? Alloys are the perfect solution, but am not looking for alloys now.

Hi Nikhil

I read your reply to Akshay that for good ride quality, its advisable to go for 155/70/r13?

I was wondering what would be a good compromise for ride quality and handling at high speeds(90 kph to 140 kph). My stock tires are going to wear out soon. so was wondering which one should i go for.

I think Michelin XM1+ is THE choice among users here. Do this tires fill in my above requirement? and should i do a upsize or keep the same profile?

Thanks in advance.

Voyager --- It is not safe. It is simply not recommended. The tyre is too wide for the rim. It's like fitting a guy with a 42" waist into 32" size jeans.

Chevelle ---- Get the 165/65 R13 XM1+ IF you have alloys or wider rims. Otherwise, stick to 155/70 R13 XM1+.

Thanks Nikhil for prompt reply.

The current setup is stock. Depending upon the budget would look decide whether to go for wider rims or stick to stock.

if i were to go for alloys or wider rims which one it would be? 4.5j or 5j? in process will i be able to get good ride quality as well as handling? obviously i don't expect exceptional handling like say palio or swift, but at least can expect to better the stock ones rite?

appreciate your help.

Opt for 13x5J. Will find more options in that size compared to 13x4.5J.

Nope. 13x5J is recommended rim width for 175/70R13. And I guess Accent stock wheel size is 13x5J. Any particular reason for 13x4.5J?

Question i10 rims for Santro?

I am looking for 4.5J steel rims for my santro. I read in the i10 tyre upgrade thread that i10's rim is 4.5J. Can it be fitted in Santro without any safety issues?

Stock i10 rim size is 13x4B and not 13x4.5J. Look for 13x5J steel wheels from Accent if you don't want to continue 13x4J for Santro.

Winzee, Congrats. The brand of the alloy wheel is Plati. Moreover, you could have got XM1+ in Michelin in the same size.

Congrats. When did you buy the tyre?? You should have got the XM1+ if you bought it in the past 2 months or so. If you bought it before September, then it's ok.

@Nikhil Sir,

I want to change my Current Stock Santro Xing (2007 Model) Tyres (30k old) since its 80% bald already. Please suggest me the correct sizes. I am planning to get Alloys now along with the new set of tyres. Please suggest me a good brand in alloys and also what to look for when buying alloys...

My concern is for Safety on high speeds, good braking and better comfort.. I am willing to sacrifice on tyre's life.

CRV, the upsizes in R13 (13" wheel) are:
165/65
175/60 (I have Yokohama A539. Amazing cornering and comfort. Braking in Santro is not that Ooh La La, but compared to Bald tyres any new tyre will produce better braking effect)
185/60

Good brands in alloys Lenso, Konig, HR, League (what I find in Delhi). CRV, head to Nikhil's shop.
