hi ravi,
did u see the newly launched 155/65 R12? the price is 2100 and 145/80 R12 is for 1950Rs.
the prices have increased 1 month ago. if your car is new you should take care that the MUL people dont void your warranty on the pretext that suspension and wheel bearings problem occur due to 13" wheels and what not.

12 inch imported Alloys are with width 4.5 inch, so fitting 155/70 R12 should not be problem but ground clearance will be compromised slightly, but on 4inch Alto stock RIMS 145/80 R12 is ideal. If I put 13inch it has to be 155/65 R13.

I will check 13inch ride comfort and decide about the size.

Regards,

Ravi.

according to the car bible the right size of the Alloy width for 155/65 R13 is 5J. min is 4.5 j and max is 5.5j. however u will find most of the alloys are 5.5J which are reported to foul with alto. so take care and share your experience for us.

I had used 5J and currently using 5.5J on my ride with the same set of Michelin XM1 tyres 165/65/R13 and definitely the 5.5J combo had an issue of it scraping the wheel arches and hence installed spacers and stiffened the suspensions. However, with a 5J did not find this issue @ all as I have done extensive highway traveling on both type of alloys with the same trye set.
A safe bet and recommended upsize is 155/65/R13 tyres on a 5J which which which many have recommended here.

ok Thanks for the suggestions So best bet for Alto is 145/80 R12 or 155/65 R13.
Price difference between these 2 each tyres almost 650/-so I am thinking which is worth one.

Let us see which one I will choose.

Regards,

Ravi.

can learn that you have got your suspensions stiffened. how did u do this? i think due to stiffened suspensions you dont scrap your wheel arcs. mainly i think you got 5J alloys. so the width is also okay.

I have just stiffened the suspension, The ride height remains the same.

have u tried with 5 people on board and on rough roads. i mean not on speedbreakers where the car goes up and down symmetrically.
try to go over the speedbreaker in an angle of say 45-60 degrees cross and see whether the twist in the car causes the tyres to scrap. i will show a picute for illustration below.

Thats what I do with 5 people on board, Otherwise the car will scrape for sure mate!

i have decided not to go for alloys on my alto as i will be buying a new car next year and alto will be used by my dad.
so i will be putting 13" rims from other car onto my alto and then putting 13" michelin XM1 155/65 R13 on them.

Please can someone give a list of cars with 13" rims and 5 J width with 100 PCD so that i can go and buy ones from the showrooms.

first of all thanks a lot all the members for providing a valuable guidance and learning to me.

i tried the baleno rims. the PCD is 100 but there is a offset and when we steer the wheels to extreme right or left there are chances of scrapping. also there are chances of scrapping in the rear.

i put 2 tyres, michelin 155/70 R12 and 155/65 R13 side by side and i found that they are almost of same height with +/- 2~3 mm. the width is absolutely same.

so for a safer bet and cost saving i went for 155/70 R12 on the existing rims. i saved the rim cost of balenos Rs1100 per rim plus the extra upsize tyre cost of 300 rs per tyre.

i got those for Rs2225 each, with free wheel balaning and nitrogen filling with Rs30 per tyre. i also got a Reebok T-Shirt and a Track pant free.

best buying experince i ever had. The steering suddenly became very light and responsive despite of the fact that the tyres are wide. cornering and braking have become damn confident.

but the problem is i am getting a humming sound from tyres. i think some or the other front wheel bearings are gone.

i think michelin has done a wonder for me by launching 155/70 R12 against the earlier 145/80 R12. these are XM1+.

however can someone please explain me the difference between XM1 and XM1+

XM1 & XM1+ differ mainly in tread depth leading to increased life for the XM1+. Apart from that there are some construction changes also.

Thats good buy and right cost as well, So you mounted 155/70 R12 on Alto Stock RIMS? I feel thats just fine shouldnot create any issue.

I am planning either 145 or 155 R12 XM1+ on alloys very soon. I am waiting for money to buy Alloys. Else I will settle with XM1+ on stock RIMS

What about ride quality how much it is improved ?

Regards,

Ravi.

the steering has become damn smooth. when i go over small potholes and tar road with waviness i feel the car is smooth. with hard braking the car is not skidding. on acute corners grip is better.
these are the only things i tested. overall i am feeling confidence in driving.
but there is lot of noise from tyres, i suppose its due to wheel bearings. have given it for checking right now. will post in the evening when i get my car.

ya ravi 155/70 R12 is perfect for alto. the dealer has fitted quite a lots of altos with the same without any issues. i saved on cost as well as complications.
