I wonder why its being held on a weekday! Would have loved to join, bu the date rules it out. Im sure there will be a much better response if its held on a weekend.

Almost every year this falls on a weekday simply because this will be held as the final event of the summer festival that goes on for few weeks. But, even I agree that the response will be far better if held on a weekend.

Some more information from today's edition of "The Hindu"

Having over the years become one of the most looked forward to events of the annual summer tourist season in this hill station, the Vintage Car Rally is set to provide a visual treat to the tourists and local people this season also.

Organised by the Nilgiris Vintage and Classic Cars Association, it will be held on May 19.

Stating that elaborate arrangements are being made for the event, the president of the association, R. Rajinikanth, told The Hindu here on Wednesday that it was being organised for the past six years.

The automobiles belong to owners in the Nilgiris and other parts of the country.

About 50 cars and 30 motorcycles are expected to participate.

After passing through the main roads they will be displayed at the Breeks Open Air Stadium.

Cars, which are expected to participate are Austin (1934), Morris Cowley (1936), Woolsley (1947), Ford Prefect (1948) and Morris Minor (1952).

The association will also conduct a Time, Speed, Distance Rally on May 20.

Between 50 to 75 modern cars will also participate, he said.

The main sponsors of the events are McDowells.

Nice to know about this, usually i've noticed that every year it is Well Organised Rally.

What cars of yours are participating this year....?

The MB has still not returned home. It's been over 15 months in the garage. Final coat of painting is to be done today. Hoping it will be ready before the 18th, else I will be taking only the CJ. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hopefully next year I will participate with my MDN registered 1954 Dodge Convertible. Once the car is restored I want to drive it to Nilgiris as my parents have so many memories of this car there. The work has just started and we should be ready by the next rally.

The show ended today on a high not by 4pm and was one of the biggest ever with about 48 four wheelers and about 15 two wheelers.

I was finally able to make it with the Willys MB. Started from pollachi at about 2am and reached Ooty by 8am. The Willy is still far from perfect and plan to do it up at the earliest.

Will upload all the pictures by Saturday once I reach Coimbatore.

Just uploading couple of pictures of my Willy as of yesterday morning and today morning. Was a marathon effort to get it in running condition.

Glad to see the pics. of the Ooty classics again! Good to know the tribe is increasing! The lovely blue mk2 Herald that even won a prize the last time didnt seem to make it this time though.

But the cars that did show up are quite awesome! Although, to see Herald bonnet catches used on this willys wagon:

Nice selection of cars, though I wish they were not so over embellished. The pick of the lot for me is the sporty looking Riley, looks fast and elegant.

Did all the police commissioners across India have Plymouth/Dodge Kingsway's as their official steed? The Kolkata Police Commissioner also uses a Kingsway of the same era, whereas the Chief of the Eastern Command uses a black W115.

Yeah, there were quite few vehicles that were missing from the previous years. Also there were some very interesting new entrants this time around and hence for the first time, restrictions were also laid out by denying entry to Amby's.
