Bangalore Club Vintage Car Rally - Ravi Prakash Collection

The Bangalore Club has been hosting a vintage car event annually since 2009 (correction 2010 there was no show since there was no active committee). 2009 had a lot of varied classics from the Khoday's, Vijay Mallya and the old collection of a few old Bangaloreans. To make up numbers, supercars and anything out of the ordinary was also included. One collector was conspicuously absent Dr Ravi Prakash. He had offered to display his cars but the committee turned down his offer since he was not a member.

This year, it was his collection and only his! This is only part of his collection. It looks as though he has been shopping hard. A lot of the cars are new but familiar to us like the Alfa Romeo's, the Fiat X1/9, I also noted the Mustangs that belonged to relatives of 71convertible now belong to this collection!

Austin Healey 3000 - Questionable Colour!



Austin Healey Sprite or rebadged MG Midget - My mum used to have one



Triumph TR3 - I remember going to school in one of these, crammed in the back with two others (will enhance pics later)





Sunbeam Alpine - Questionable colour combo - Rides a little too high. I recall seeing this is in 1974 in white with a dodgy hard top. No wire wheels

Fiat X1/9 - wated to buy this in 2000 but finances were out or order. Was silver and OR reg. Poor detailing

Austin A40 - "Countryman" - no such edition ever existed - the woody stuff is our local addition

The 1967 Camaro is a good addition, nice to know it has some history. I remember seeing the Fiat X1/9 when it was silver.

Waiting to see the American cars as Doc has added a few Packards, wonder if any were on display.


Doc has been furiously adding to his collection. One of the reasons for the bright colours could be to make it a attractive display at the Museum which would largely be visited by tourists not exclusively vintage enthusiasts. I remember discussing at the Manjusha Museum and they seemed to have the same logic.

Event started yesterday and ended today at 7. Non-members could come as guest of a member.

Overall, an impressive range for one owner. The older pre-war cars are well preserved the new additions need a lot of detail changes

Same thought crossed my mind, since IG was a widow on becoming PM. I had read a placard with the details. I have a pic somewhere. Also a socialists leader son in law would no look good with such a car. (lets not pursue this part of discussion further please!)
