Default Morris centenary 1913-2013 , events to be planned in India

29th march 1913 was the day when the first Morris car rolled out of the factory in Cowley Oxford, worldwide Morris clubs and enthusiast have planned events to celebrate this historic day.

Parth medh from Ahmedabad and myself are both members of the pre war minor network (www.prewarminor.com) and the vintage minor register (www.vintageminor.co.uk ) , and both of us own prewar Morris minors, Parth owns a 1934 SV minor and I own a 1930 ohv Morris minor.

We think that we in India should plan an event to celebrate this event and to spread awareness about this milestone in the marque's history.

For starters we are planning to bring our cars together, along with the La gajjar ohv Morris minor in Ahmedbad and if luck would have it , then get more Morris owners together , why Ahmedabad ? Well , because there are 2 minors already here and along with the Bhogilal bullnose it would make it a great assembly.

We need ideas , suggestions and support to make this a success.

Regards
Kartik and Parth

Hi!

There are relatively few pre war Morris in India.
What if you were to allow Minor's? Of course, that may be a distraction. But I would wonder if you managed to get more than 10 cars. Think about this, your event should be a success.

Hi,
I think it doesn't matter if the cars are prewar or postwar , all makes of Morris should be a part of the event, but even then to get 10 Morris cars together at one place seems very difficult.

Cheers

Here is the picture of the centenary badge from the Morris register,
which is also available to buy from the club shop at a very reasonable GBP 10.

I own 4 Morris cars, starting from 1935 onwards up to the 1952 Z van.All are in pristine condition. But transporting these cars to another city is an expensive and difficult proposition.I can try to organise one " Morris exclusive" show in Chennai, if need be.

The ohv Morris minor came into being in 1928 and were manufactured till 1932 , thats
when the SV engine was introduced, in later cars ohv engines were again used.

Here is the link to my car
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/pre-wa...car-award.html (My Morris Minor 1930 OHC Tourer (Winner of the Best Restored Vintage car award))

Here is another link to the prewar Morris network page which has the Morris production data

http://www.prewarminor.com/morris-mi...ion/4534033313

I know of two other prewar ohv minors in India , one is with the pg foils collection in Rajasthan which is 1931 model and the other one is the 1932 ohv minor which is owned by the gajjar family in Ahmedabad.

Out of all Morris minors in India , my car is oldest known surviving minor in India.

Here's the link to a thread on a Morris Major OHV here in Delhi, although the question has been about Minor OHVs. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/pre-wa...er-1933-a.html (Morris Major 6 MJ15 4 seater Tourer 1933)

Morris cars were sold in India together with Morris Commercials and Wolseleys. They were advertised in local languages. Check out this ad.
Morris Industries (India) Ltd. Bombay. Never heard of this before.
Hope you like.

May have been posted before. I think it is beautiful artwork.

Interesting whitewalls and Hindust"H"an as previously discussed somewhere in TBHP.

Tomorrow, Friday 29th March 2013 those who own Morris cars will have cause to celebrate, as precisely 100 years will have passed since the first production Morris 'Oxford' left the new Temple Cowley works of W.R.M. Motors Ltd.

Sadly no events have been planned in India, however I for one will be using my Tourer as a daily runner tomorrow.

cheers
Kartik
